Once I start something, I'm going to finish. I might have a problem getting started, if I don't see a clear path to victory. But if I see that path, I will follow it.
Depends how important it is. Are we talking last piece of key lime pie or pumpkin pie? If key lime, you can have it, if pumpkin, someone hand me my sword, because it's a fight to the death.

But I'm not obsessive about most things... I do a lot of multi-tasking, so I know when things are good enough. If it ain't in the cards today, I might try again tomorrow or next week, or whenever. Or not, if it's not important.
Other times, one stops because the other party is clearly not going to budge and I just have to respect that or at least disengage.
Also, it depends on what's at stake. I pick my battles.
