Most of the time people are pretty defined. Sometimes though the question can leave far too much ground uncovered and therefore people need another option to answer with. I find that life is rarely yes or no and the truth often has many degrees between.

This is why I leave the choice off of my questions. That way you get a more accurate answer instead of answering with everything (all of the above) or nothing at all, or 'other'.

I think my questions are interesting enough that i won't ever alienate people.... But if i put up a poll like "have you ever smoked pot"
It should be Yes or no.... But i bet if i put undecided.... it will be the most popular answer.... You'll get a bunch of folk that say well i had a contact high so i sorta did... ummm classic i never inhaled... wanna see? I do///

I guess there are a lot of pollsters on here that can't write a balanced question. In that case the undecided has merit, but at least people should leave a strong comment to express their view.

I think it varies on the questons, and whether or not someone has something particular to say about the subject. But I also think that it can be a copout for people who do have opinions but are afraid to go against the grain.

I find that sometimes I don't know the topic so my only choice is undecided. Sometimes the question doesn't pertain to me so the answer is none of the above. Sometims the poll is silly and frivolous and not deserving of an answer. Depend on the question.

I am amused to see that "undecided" is not the most used answer on this poll -- also amused to see that it is, in fact, on option...
When I make polls, I try to cover all possible answers. Sometimes those three are good options for the question, sometimes they are not. I do not always add them as options.
Not all of the polls I have commented on have had those three options, but there have been polls I wished had one of them! Many times the options given do not include my opinion, which many times is "undecided" or "all of the above" or "none of the above"...
Cop out or not (I prefer to think not), those are certainly answers to a lot of questions!

I try to create questions with answers for everyone. Sometimes people haven't made up their minds and want to read and learn more before making their final decision.
