Agreed and lets not forget the fact that some of these people had good paying jobs at one time - and they were shipped overseas - which of course left them with a house payment they could not make and - if they had no family around to help them - they could end up homeless

And some of them should have fallen under the bank bailout safety net, but the banks pocketed the money, but helped few.

Some homeless people have lost everything to the recession-depression, and my heart goes out to them. But, some people are homeless due to abusive traits, laziness, etc. I feel sorry for their victims, but not for them.

Yes, For I to was homeless on a few occasions. And not by choice just by circumstance.
    Being homeless sucks.
Not all homeless people are bums and want to be homeless. Most are made to be homeless, thrown onto the streets by circumstances beyond there control.

I do for veterans or natural disasters... but for those who are homeless and in and out of jail, I do not because they did it to themselves!

Unless they got majorly ripped off or natural disasters or job loss. Depends on the events that led up to that point.

Yes I do, but I also grew up in third world country and street kids begging was a common sight. It'd be a storm outside and they're still out there since they have no where else to go. I don't like buying into the they're there because they can't be arsed to be anything else mentality, because in mnay cases its not like that. I dare anyone who thinks that way to go to a thrid world and tell the begger child that its their own fault they're homeless.

I do indeed. Many think that homeless people are lazy or they would get out and work and not be homeless. That mentality is simply because they do not understand why some people are homeless. No question there are some that simply will not work and are satisfied with where they are but there are many that are homeless because of circumstance beyond their control. We all are but a few paychecks away from being homeless. It can happen to anyone and often there are whole families that are homeless.
If I had plenty of money this is the one area I would do my best to help.

I have stood in a shopping mall on the second level looking down on the grand entrance. I noticed a number of people just setting where ever they could find simply trying to be in out of the cold. It was clear some where homeless. The look on their faces told the story of their lives. They looked very sad indeed. Very Sad!

Awe....it is an awful thing to have to see.....what is this country coming to. It really sucks that this has to happen in this country - I would not want to see a whole family that is homeless - I saw a show about a family that was living in their car for several weeks and that father finally got a job and saved them - there were two little kids sleeping in that car with mom and dad. They hid and laid low so they would not lose their children to the system - he finally got his break and they had a happy ending. Can you imagine - how he did not slip in to despair is beyond me - I have to leave this poll - it is my vacation and I am depressing myself

Depends on their entire life story and what got them there. Cannot give a simple answer to such a complex question.

Its sad that those homeless are against the very ones that are helping them the most. I and my company supply food shelves every year and contribute over $2500 a year to help the homeless. There is no reason why anyone in America should be homeless. Its all about liberal politics and the foolish redistribution of support our government provides to other Countries instead of taking care of our own first.

yes I do feel sorry for them. While I'm in my house enjoying where I sleep, they have to sleep on germ infested sidewalks and alleyways.
I can get up every morning looking towards breakfast and coming home looking forward to dinner, they have no idea where their next meal will come from and how they will survive on the streets where they can be easily victimized.

i know where i live there are very few real homeless litlerallyn sleeping on the street as the city have somewhere for them all to stay even if it is poor conditions but even with the bare life essentials it isn't a good quality of life. My friend who is only 17 lives in a homeless shelter whilst on the waiting list for a council house she asked if i could help her carry shopping home and all she'd bought to eat for that week was 4 frozen pizzas and some fizzy juice..It's easy to walk past and ignore the men and women with a hat full of change and just tell ourselves they got that way themselves but nobody will know their story.

I knew a professor in the 80's who lost his whole family in a house fire.He lost his will and went to living in the streets.I felt for him at first. But,we must not give up in life.

With all these corporate lay offs and foreclosures, many people can be in this situation in the near future. Lots of these people are mentally disabled and our society doesn't accommodate for this. They could live in a commune on public land and have the government over see it, with health care.
