Yes that has occurred to me. I figure nobody is going to give a damn when I'm old and when I die - and that is the price I've paid for not having to deal with children. I'm just going to be one of those crazy cat ladies. Hopefully someone will notice the smell before they've eaten too much.

Didn't start thinking about that one until it was too late to change my mind, so I have to live with it. And of course my children might not have liked me, and might have been content to let me rot. So I might have ended up the same anyway.

I hope you're wrong about no one caring - it isn't just children who care. I have no kids, but I hope that at least one of my sisters, nieces or nephews does. :)

See, if you were a dog lover, the dog would sit with you until someone came or it might even go try and get help. A cat will sit and wonder when dinner will be ready.

You too. I liked dogs when I was a kid, but the dogs I've been around lately have really made me question their desirability. I'm hoping I've just been around the wrong dogs. They just aren't peaceful, and I really like peaceful. But I do think it would be fun to have a dog and get involved in activities with them - so the dog would be really well trained.

I'm definitely a dog person. There are breeds I wouldn't get, but I like Shepherds and Labradors. Most likely, I would get a rescue dog with some of those breeds in them. They're good with most people. I have plenty of peace and quiet now. WhenIi retire, I want something that will get me out of the house and moving about and a dog is it.

We had a Belgian Tervuren when I was a kid - he was great - and a German Shepherd. I also like Shelties - they're very bright. My mom has a Bichon I cannot stand, and my nephew has a pit bull who is very nice and well trained but I wouldn't want one of those.

I'm not familiar with the Tervuren. I do like the Malinois, too - very Shepherd-like. I'm a bigger dog person - can't stand the yippers. Pit bulls can be very sweet and I agree that how they're raised has a lot to do with it, but I also believe there are breeds that are hard-wired to be more aggressive and they're one of them. My sister has a Shepherd/Lab mix and a Corgi/Lab mix and I love both of them.

Tervurens are long haired, very similar to the Malinois otherwise.

Also very fond of the Belgian Shepherd - basically the same dog with a different color
