I have an extremely sensitive olfactory and palate. I constantly alter recipes to match what I sense is "off" to make them better. Most foods I make are undeniably better than any recipe I read from, and my undying customer satisfaction proves it.

Even when following recipes, I alter them slightly, to make my life easier or to rid myself of ingredients that my family will not eat.

I mostly cook by the book, but sometimes I like to add or exclude certain ingredients. So no, I don't exactly cook by the book.

A little of both. Use the cook book as a guidline, then change things to what I like. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't XD

I'm not a very good cook so I try to do everything as per the instructions. There are only 3 dishes I can make from memory that look at taste okay. I have toddlers that are my critics, it is not edible they ain't eating.

Cook, no. Bake, yes. Cooking usually allows for a LOT of personal touch, and it's the only creative thing I can do - but I've found (often) with baking, if you don't play by the book you're screwed.

I make meals from a shoe box not the book. this means what ever I have available i throw it in the pot and hope for the best. I do know how to cook very well though.

I have a collection of cookbooks, but I never use them. Does anyone want to buy them!!!!!! Just kidding, I am going to give them to goodwill, someone else might like the pictures......LOL......I did.

Always for the first time. Then I'll tweek it if necessary the 2nd or 3rd go around. Once I find the way I like it, I pencil in the changes or use a post-it. There are so many good recipes that I can't remember them all.

Once you learn the basics, you no longer need to follow the book exactly. When you know how to prepare the food, and what tastes go together, you can give the book the old heave ho.
