And why is it a big deal if some sodaheads do not comprehend English at the level of Native English Speakers? This site is on the Internet and that means it is exposed Internationally. There is no mine and theirs here, only ours. People that become offended when others are not quite up to the comprehension level need to work a little harder at loving their fellow man. Difference of language is just as guilty at starting conflict as most anything else. So practice a little kindness and understanding.

I do get the impression that some people who reply to my questions are just pecking randomly at the keyboard on the off-chance that what results is a sentence in English. I'm not naming names but "You know who you are!!!"

English, German and French.
I know that I make mistakes with spelling and grammer, still I'm being understood.

English and German much better, because I use it more often.
French has become rusty because of lack of use.

In the province I live, Limburg in The Netherlands that is, we speak a dialect.
In everyday live, at home, sociallly, buisness etc.
So in some way Dutch is also a foreign language to me.

I can honestly say that I speak, read and write English better than most.
When I take the time to do so carefully, my written English is near perfect (if not perfect.)

I meant people in general, when they come to the U.S. they need to speak our Language or go home. I should not have to press one on the Telephone for English

Yes, you are right. Living in the US you should learn English.

It is important to find your place in society, to communicate with your neighbour, your childrens teacher, the doctor, enz.
That telephone thing, pressing for language, I hear a lot from US-SH's .
Pressing a choice, we have that here to but that is about being directed to a certain department etc.

One thing I like to add!
Ameericans themselves should make a bigger effort to learn a foreign language.
Like many people in English speaking countries they think: English is an internationallly used language in the world. Why learning another language!
