I tend to check out a person's profile. I'll usually just browse, I don't read every little detail. Pictures interest me the most. If you don't have any real pics of yourself, I'm probably less interested, but I won't deny a friend request over it...

I don't care about the picture, is quite impossible to know anyone trough a picture. I only look a profile if I've got a friend request or if their answer shocked me (for good or bad), there are many things that make that person different, but maybe in the profile you can find something where both agree, but I usually only check their position in some issues that really can define them

If we're talking about something like age, music, or just something we're having an argument over, I'll check their profile just to confirm my assumptions. My assumptions are usually accurate.

When they reply to one of my comments or rave something of mine, I just hover unless they seem interesting. If they add me or seem interesting I check out their profile.

When something they say seems really dumb. I go check what other answers they have given to see if they are consistently ignorant. Then that usually get me curious to look over there profile a little more. But I don't really look at other peoples profiles otherwise.
