In my sole opinion, yes. But I wouldn't push that on anyone else. It's not my duty to. But just don't expect a decent person to really give you a chance if you live a lifestyle like that. These things have a way of coming back to haunt you.

Very good question, it depends on to what extent you are promiscuous. Lusting after someone girlfriend or going out and getting laid all night long is to different things. Today if you did that you could very easily will get you killed by catching something you don't want. All I can say is I was no angel when I was young.

I don't accept the concept of morality. But, in today's world, I think that being promiscuous is just, plain stupid.

You don't accept the concept of "morality"? Then if you irritate me and everyone around me, it would be fine for me to kill you. After all, if killing isn't immoral, and your absence would make everyone around you happier, where's the harm?

"Morality", as a concept, has religious connotations I do not accept. In common parlance, a moral person is one who follows the commandments of a god and someone "immoral" does not. Besides which, "immoral" has sexual overtones.

What I do accept, and what I follow, is the concept of ethics...a concept of human behavior that is outside of gods. I treat my fellow humans as I would like them to treat me. I don't lie to them, steal from them, cut them, bash them or take away their livelihood. I don't call them nasty names or threaten them with eternal damnation because they don't believe in my god because I believe in no god. I don't invade their country and use "shock and awe" to steal their oil, rape their women and slaughter their babies.

I consider the concept of morality to be vastly inferior to that which I try to practice and wouldn't lower myself to call myself "moral". I behave well because I know it's the right thing to do to keep my society healthy...not because I fear what some Sky Daddy with a flaming belt will do to me. Only very young children, whose minds are still immature, behave well through fear of punishment.

(I thank you for walking into my little trap. Your response amused me and I do so enjoy being amused.)

And you believe, I assume, that mocking people who are trying to have a conversation with you is "ethical"? That's a really mature sort of ethics you practice, my friend.

Sadly all governments are influenced by religions, some more than others, a great sociological tool to control "citizens" is through religious beliefs.

So there is no right and wrong? We should allow personal interest to dictate our morality? What if one finds it "right" to have sex with 12 year olds?
  • joshua ... Assassi... 2012/05/21 18:27:24

It's not so much right or wrong as those are subjective, not to long ago in human history that was acceptable as you were deemed an adult at 13, so society or government (heavily influenced by religions) frequently set the "moral compass" for those they have control over, I just hold that each individual should be given the opportunity to decide the values they choose to live by....not likely to occur but a nice fantasy

I don't agree with you. I think there is an inherent right and wrong and as humans we should strive to hold ourselves to a better standard.
  • joshua ... Assassi... 2012/05/21 18:42:38
    joshua ben-ami
I am not sure what you're disagreeing with but there is a basic simple moral standard that might be very effective, simply "treat others the way you wish to be treated". Applied universally would create a dramatic shift in societies in general...is there cause to disagree with that standard?

No. That is not what I disagree with. I don't agree that morality is subjective.

However some people wish to burn themselves, or cut themselves. I would not wish to be treated as they treat themselves.
  • joshua ... Assassi... 2012/05/22 14:19:09
    joshua ben-ami
the key is how you treat others not yourself, if they wish to inflict harm to themselves, how does this affect you? It's how they treat you that counts and if they harm themselves and this causes you distress then you can "choose" not to be around them.
As to morality being objective who is setting the standards??? Objectivity depends on a universal standard, if this is not existent than it becomes subjective by virtue of the individuals perception...

I don't understand it.Yet for some meaningless sex with disposable people is the norm.I can't impose my values on others. Just wholeheartedly think if there's nothing beyond a sexual attraction be honest and forthright about it while your clothes are still on is the moral thing to do.

If you're single then whatever you 2 decide is all right for you is one thing. But if you're married??? Oh hell yeah! If you're married and you're going out cheating on your spouse then that is wrong. Plain and simple!
