Not only did he flub on the Bayonet thing... he was also misguided on the Ship comment... Romney CLEARLY stated we used to be able to fight on 2 fronts, now only 1. and that we had less ships and aircraft than we've ever had. NOW while they are more technically advanced... you still can't be in 2 places at once!!! So yes! build the Military... the world is about to explode. Mideastern conflicts, Russia and China are growing quickly... europe is almost broke... War IS coming.

"Commander In Chief" just doesn't fit President Obama! I've always felt that way! He appeared disconnected from the Military,with no respect, from the begining of his Presidency. It may have something to do with his ideology, or he just doesn't have any interest?! "Bigger fish to fry",maybe?

When did you use yours last. 82nd Airborne 11 Bravo 504th INF 75th Ranger Bat Charlie Co Ft Benning Ga Panama 89 Desert Storm and Shield 91 didn't use the old school bayonet only in parades. I preferred the Gerber. China has only one battle ship does this warrant building 15 more ships who's out of touch a cruise missile can handle that job.

I think it was a snarky comment - and I don't think it makes Obama look very presidential - even if it is a debate. And yes, it's sad that he doesn't know that bayonets are still used.

If the weapon is deployed on the Marines' person in the field or Theater of Operations then regardless of the degree of use the tool is in use .in combat..

Marines train with bayonets, but there hasn't been a Bayonet charge ordered by any branch of the US military since Korea. The army has stopped issuing bayonets because that's 2 more 30 round magazines of ammo (60 bullets) that a soldier can carry. Besides, in a hand-to-hand combat situation, cracking a guy's skull with the butt of your gun is just as effective.

I did not know this thanks for the update ,I will have too look it up..last I recall ,, I do recall when I was in the Army back in 1990's we trained with the use of for Hand to hand and Fixed bayonets ,Key words & terms that stick in my mind for .Come from Behind.. Cover the mouth-- go for the heart.. between 2 and 3rd ribs or Go for the breath Go for the Diaphragm and lungs drive up to just under the sternum less the point of for a scream... the cry fo help or warning signs to his chaps

If they have taken away the use of , I think that is a very big mistake..

You wonder why people think Obama 'won' debates and this is a good example - some were actually insisting that Obama 'scored one' with this. They didn't even realize this was an Obama 'gaffe', he mispoke, Obama flubbed this.
*and not because Bayonets are still used by the military.
Here in picture form with the meaningful quotes. Romney specifically refers to having more new ships (which we presume ARE the more advanced ones):

To paraphrase in simplest terms:
Romney: The Navy would like X number of modern high-tech 2012 level effective ships.
Obama: We don't use old less effective and outdated non-ships anymore. Instead we use modern high-tech Ships.
Romney: Uh.. ya like the high-tech modern ships I was just talking about.
Obama: Oh uhh.. jerkface!

"Community Organizer" was a phrase made up by AM radio and FAUX news in 2008 and they haven't let it go.

I can't be certain now; but I know they were still using them in Vietnam; and I can't imagine they'd give them up as they're useful in close combat, especially in such ROE as our troops are stuck with now!
