Do So-Called Christians on SodaHead scare you away from God?

Kyra 2011/08/28 23:44:08
I was on a poll where so many "so-called Christians" were telling people that they are going to hell. I see no healing or saving, but only people being driven away from God... and I made this poll for those who have been told were going to
hell. For people who connect all Christians with hate and condemnation, let me tell you how Christians are supposed to treat others according to scripture...

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
~John 13:34-35

29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
~Ephesians 4:29-32

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 5:43-48

12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
~1 Thessalonians 4
4:11 Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.
~James

Jesus did come for sinners and was chastised by leaders of the Jewish religion for what he did with those sinners. However, when Jesus talked to them, he didn't tell them to keep doing the sins, he told them to "go and sin no more" as just one example. If a Christian pointing out to someone that what they are doing is a sin and the person gets mad, that's the "sinners" problem as turning from sin involves that person making the decision.

What you are saying is since I don't see it YOUR way, I'm wrong. Yes, you are sorry because that is how you look at things.

Jesus went from town to town to spread the good news of the kingdom.... what "good news' are you giving anyone?

What the word of God says. If people turn away from it because they don't like what they hear, that's their problem. God addresses the fate of those that do and do not accept His word and it's not pretty. Trying to sugar coat it gives people a false sense of reality.

Telling people that Jesus died to fulfill God's laws is the word of God....

You are telling them they are still sinners. You are still telling them that jewish law still attains to them, even though Jesus says that LOVE fulfills the those laws.

Why did Jesus come if we are to still be transgressors of the law?

Where do you get that I am telling them that Jewish law still applies and people are sinners if they don't follow it?

You made a claim that I said Jewish laws still apply and people are sinners if they don't. PROVE IT. We are not transgressors of the Jewish laws because Christ fulfilled them. Again, PROVE where I said those laws should still apply.

You want to hold on to calling people sinners. You believe in condemning the transgressors.... like they did to Jesus himself.

James4:11 Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it

How you tie that to me thinking that the old Jewish laws should be upheld is a far reach. Even Jesus used the word sinner when speaking to the woman that was going to be stoned for adultery. When he said, "Go and sin no more", Jesus wasn't talking about the old Jewish law, he was speaking on adultery being a sin and it's named as one in the New Testament. People can transgress against what is written in the New Testament, too unless you are one of those Christians that think when Jesus came, all sin went away.

Through LOVE, yes all sin could go away. If you love others as yourself you would not commit sin against anyone. That is why Jesus summed the laws up with Love.

Romans13: 8: Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law. 9 For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.

Other than the same Press released pictures of those that are NOT Christian (because of their actions) , I've never come across hatred or condemnation .

People need to learn the differance between "feeling insulted" (causes that errr feeling in the chest cavity) , and "heart conviction" (also causes that errr feeling in the chest cavity) , except heart conviction is a good thing , because it much better to find out that one has things they need to fix or stop doing ,... than to think everything is just fine , while walking straight into the future Lake of Fire .

That's the location of the real problem = from with in those individuals ,... NOT those that are just being obedient to The Holy Spirit and speaking Truth , so ya don't fry .

Some Christians are remarkably skilled at turning people away from the Lord. The Bible waving shouters that stand around Fresno Superior Court and the Mariposa Mall (across from Courthouse Park) spring to mind. But so do a few people I've debated here on Sodahead.

    No.

I think people who pretend to know God better than others are truly lost. Each can have their own relationship, or not.

It is not up to others to tell me what to believe or how to believe it. What truly saddens me is the "brainwashing" of children. But, that is the easiest way to promote the ancient fear centered systems.

Well that is not really true as I don't believe in God so cannot actually be scared. Jesus may or may not have existed as a man, but since I don't believe in God I also don't believe Jesus was his son or any extension of a god. But religion scares me. The mindless following of it scares me. In fact I am not only an atheist I am an anti-theist. I don't thin religion is benign and I think the people who prefer the kinder gentler version of their professed religion are dangerous because they give a warm fuzzy face to something that has fangs. It is deluded to believe that true Christianity is a peaceful and loving religion and that God is a god of love. It is nice that some people want to have that kind of religion but by calling themselves Christian they lend a deceptively benign appearance to a religion that is at best inconsistent but largely promotes hatred, intolerance, violence and discrimination. The best and most easily found quotes that do this come from the OT but I can give you quotes from Jesus that say the OT is to be kept and followed, not to be thrown out. Many Christians seem to have missed that memo.
I have read the bible more than once, but I certainly don't have it memorized enough to quote from it. Quotes can be found in abundance on the internet so if you want to know what the detractors of Christianity are referring to you can google things like evilbible.com Jesus, if he existed, was a religious reformer but it wasn't enough.
