I was on a poll where so many "so-called Christians" were telling people that they are going to hell. I see no healing or saving, but only people being driven away from God... and I made this poll for those who have been told were going to
hell. For people who connect all Christians with hate and condemnation, let me tell you how Christians are supposed to treat others according to scripture...
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” ~John 13:34-35
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. ~Ephesians 4:29-32
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:43-48
12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. ~1 Thessalonians 4 4:11 Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it. ~James
No. No one has ever scared me away from any particular theology. I studied what I wanted and believe what I do without the reservation of fear in my heart or mind.
I personally don't think that there are many christians on sodahead. there are a lot of social conservatives that use christianity as a political tool. I tend to lump social conservatives in America with groups like the taliban. They just have a different religion that they exploit for their political goals.
Im part of a multifaith family so religion really isnt reason to fight. I know not everyone wants to hear abut this so i wont bring it up out of the blue. Its not my thing. However some are lead to go that route...why i will never know.
I don't think there's something to be pushed away from but I think that when you use1 book to hate on people, you should have read it completely, including the good parts :)
There is a reason every book has a begening and an end, most these people stick with the old testament which is all jewish law... the reason Jesus came was to save us from the laws....yet so called Christians hold on to them as if they were never fulfilled.
Romans13:8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
I myself don't necessarely go by loving everyone, but respecting the equal rights everyone have. like the right of property, truth, life, knowing what goes on with your health (adultery isn't only about cheating, but about playing dices with someone else health with stds risks), etc.
And I give everyone a good start in relationship. It can be break, but I don't ask people to prove they should have my respect. they have it and their acts can make them loose it
If you don't respect others, I won't respect you. else, you can count on my respect
Nothing to be scared away from. It seems like many of the "Christians" on SH are about as Christian as a woman I know in RL. I know she thinks of herself as VERY Christian, but she is one of the most un-Christian (gossipy, unkind, mean) people I know. I also have a friend who could be a poster-child for a good Christian. She's just a good person all round.
Of course, everyone knows you don't have to be a "good" person to be saved AS LONG AS YOU ACCEPT JESUS AS YOUR SAVIOR! Is it any wonder that these "Christians" think they can treat everyone else like crap? They've convinced themselves they can get away with murder (think Mafia) as long as they "BELIEVE"! :-/
What an important question you are asking; thank you. NO, I have had the pleasure to know enough people who conduct themselves as "actual" Christians, that I would never be turned away from God by those who act obnoxiously towards others because of their supposed faith.
Hello Ugly! I am a universalist and when it comes to salvation. The Bible states that it is Gods will that all will be reconciled back to him. I believe that even the fallen angels will, in the end be saved, and reconciled to God.
I don't believe that the God is knowable or that there is any evidence of a deity. There are people that do good in the name of their superstition and people that do bad. There is good in the major religions and some vile things.
They may cause me to fear for the future of education in this country, but they do not scare me away from god. Do Lucky Charms commercials scare you away from leprechauns?
But after people scare them away...that possibility shortens for them to be open to Him . What does God think of the people who scare the spiritually sick away from Him?.... they are more in need than you, Jesus came for the spiritually sick so He could heal them....not the righteous.
Matthew 9:12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
I have faith in God, no person looking for him will be lost, none will be without a shepherd. If they cant find him, he will find them. Every Christian I know has overcome obstacles in their way blocking their path to faith in God. Overcoming those obstacles is part of how we gain our faith. We do not believe because its easy, we believe because we have not let doubt get in our way, God will overcome. Give God a little credit, he isnt limited by our human shenanigans. He can and will find the lost who are open to him and no man nor woman will be able to prevent that.
What about the people who are not open and get pushed further away from people telling them they are going to hell? jesus clearly said He came for them!
I don't know why you would even argue not pushing people away form God... You know deep down how God would feel about this, right?
No he did not, he said he came for the spiritually sick, for the sinners. Being a Christian does not mean we do not sin nor does it mean we are immune from spiritual sickness. He came for those who need him and that could be a Christian who is drifting away from his faith or the non-believer looking for answers.
I wasnt arguing, I was voicing a different opinion which isnt to say your wrong, nor do I assume Im right.
And no I would never be so presumptuous to assume i know what God is thinking about people I dont know but he does.
Regardless Im not going to argue about my faith or yours for that matter. You do what you think is right and I will do what i think is right and may God have mercy on us both.
You just have to be able to distinguish between the Christianity that Christ instituted and the "Christianity" of the folks on here. Christ NEVER sought to offend his audiences, but rather he sought to build on what they had in common and tried to reason with them. What you see on here is bigotry masquerading as Christianity.
They don't scare me I just treat them with the contempt they deserve. They normally the biggist hypocrites and their idea of heaven and hell is rubbish

This is another poll I'd love you to read the scriptures of love....

Just do good because it is the right thing to do. not because of after-death consequences

If they are comfortable being judged based on their own judgments, then so be it, its in God's hands.
