When my back got screwed up, I had the hardest time trying to find someone to help me figure out what was wrong but they were all willing to give me drugs.

Describe over prescribe. I'm setting here with no knees and back from arthur and I'll take anything I can get just to be 25 again without pain. Living without pain kind of changes perspective doesn't it???

Some do. But it's my hope that they are not the majority.

I'm sure some do. Whether it's the most or not, I do not know.

What some DON'T do however is challenge patients to use as little as possible and adequately warn them of dependency and other dangers...

I had an accident and got pretty "addicted" to painkillers. I thought the doctor didn't prescribe enough of them. Its a slippery slop, one doesn't have to be a 'junkie' on the street to be prescription drug dependent.

I say this from first hand knowledge. I am a family caregiver and my spouse has become so accustomed to pain meds prescribe by her doctor they don't work that well and when she complains instead of finding the source of the problem the dosage is increased.
Prescribing a medication is easier then spending time with a patient to determine the root cause of a problem. When national health care is instituted this will become more of a problem.

If you're in enough pain that you go to the doc, he/she should give you something for it. They DO over-prescribe antibiotics, though.

What does being rich have to do with it? If you go to a doc who hands out prescriptions, you'll get pretty much whatever you want.
