Dreams of flying are among the most common dreams, along with falling and losing teeth. They're certainly the most enjoyable of the three. For some people, flight is more than a dream. Pilots, adrenaline junkies, and inventors have all had occasion to defy gravity and take to the skies. But we wanted to ask the public about extreme flights of fancy -- superpowers and jetpacks, flying pigs and floating food. Be sure to take our 6-question Quick Poll to fill out the entire survey. Oh, and don't try any of this at home!

LMAO, I just jumped off random things (roof, cliffs, trees, etc.). I was certain that I had the ability to fly, it just needed to be awakened. XD

We were on vacation on the 5th floor and I took of the curtains of the hotel and i cut an "S" so it'd be like a cape cut my moms silky pants to make a mask and I stood on the patio and shouted "I am super Tim" let's just say I spent the next year in a wheelchair

My flying machine was my grandmother's umbrella. It worked for half way down from a four foot porch!

Ok not with balloons but I was pretending to be Wonder woman and although she can't fly, I felt I could. So I jumped off a stool yelling "WONDER WOMANNNNN!" and sadly landed on my face, which happened to hit the concrete floor of the basement. Wasn't one of my finer moments but hey I was five...

Do it now. They have all kinds of plane rentals they fly then u take control. Not too much price wise for the thrill of it all. Dont dream when u can live.

I jumped off of our roof and landed in one of my Mom's prized Bird of Paradise bushes. I thought surely my cape would carry me. It failed, and so did I.

I used to go out evernight that there was a full moon, and id do this little dance and I'm not so sure that I thought they were aliens but they weren't human, maybe it was more like fairytale creatures. I always waited for them to come out and share their world and knowledge with me and stuff so I could be like leonardo davinci or albert Einstein. and i was convinced that i was an alien like superman that looked human but wasint LOL i believed that as i got older id be able to fly so id run as fast as i could and jump and spread my arms and mark how far i "flew" with a marker and scream to my family that im becoming a better flyer!!! I had quite the imagination lol I can't even imagine how much of a handful I was to my parents ,jumping off of the roof onto a matress and other crazy things. Amazingly I never got hurt HAHA.

If we had had an extra mattress lying around, I probably would've used it. I knew I couldn't sneak something that big past my parents and siblings.

I have a hard time with my joints at age 51. I've often wondered if some of it doesn't go back to my "jumping" days.

    Not a fair question,
Actually Yes, I tried flying on TWA and was quite successful. First attempt ended up in Colorado. Too bad Trans World Airlines is no longer around. I always wanted to buy them and change the name to Trans World Air Transportation with the slogan. "And they say their skies of friendly. :-)"

That was fun too. I would spin in circles every time Time Tunnel came on, so I would be in sync with the main character.

^ actually not with a bunch of balloons, my answer wasn't there. Yea, I've tried, but not like jumping off a cliff expecting to soar on the wind but instead breaking your spine type of thing.
  • memebev1 2012/08/16 18:00:03

Yes, actuarially I would have liked to be able to fly like “Rocket Man.” Like the Disney Rocketeer, he used a jet pack.

We kept trying from the time we were about 4 or 5. Tried umbrellas, a box kite, a sheet rigged like a parachute, Jumped from garage roofs, shed roof, trees (not really smart), top of a small sand hill in the neighborhood (with a box kite on a very windy day), and a few very high walls. Somehow none of us managed to break any bones! And, we weren't going to tell how we got the scrapes and bruises. We started this back in the era of WWII...
