Did the terms DUMB ASS and IGNORANT ASS originate as a result of an ass being the democratic mascot?

The Democrats have used the ass as their party's symbol since Andrew Jackson was President.

He liked that "compliment" so much, he adopted the jackass, or donkey, as the symbol of the Democratic Party. This is according to the History Channel's series "The Presidents."

actually, I think the poor Ass is insulted by being used as the mascot for the Democrat party. The ass, while stubborn, is also surefooted and somewhat smart for an herbivore, it is also very loyal and has a HELL of a bite,.
all of those qualities put together are quite endearing in a way.
now, the current democrats in power are deceptive, misleading, untruthful, and if we use the examples of two democrat 'Queens' Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi, quite ugly to boot! 8-)
I would say the current crop should use a snake, but art least a snake is quite graceful, and not really all that ugly.
a monitor Lizard on the other hand ............... Ugly, and sneaky, ............ can't really trust it ............ yeah, that sounds like a candidate to me.
