Ok our government bans drugs and spends billions of tax dollars on the ongoing war on drugs to keep people from using them recreationally because the drugs might kill them. This same government allows the importation of poison food goods from China that have killed people children pets and continues to allow this to happen under the guise of fair trade. Can someone explain this to me??

The war on drugs,is mainly just job security for government employees.
After all these years,if there was a real war on drugs, there would be no drug problem.
Kind of like the war on poverty, both just a big waste of time and money, for normal taxpayers anyway...

It seems to be a mixed message.

Generally, the big red slash is supposed to be painted over the object
proscribed in the center of the circle. This one isn't, so it looks like a
half-assed instruction, just like we have with conflicting marijuana laws
    and jurisdictions.

One of my friends smoked marijuana and never stopped hallucinating. I've only heard of this once, and I have a lot of friends who smoke marijuana. I guess that it can have some deadly effects. There is a theory that Bruce Lee died because he had a lethal reaction to marijuana. I guess it can be kind of dangerous, but probably not much more than alcohol.

money, power and greed. continuing to "fight" drugs means more money for those corrupt in power.

It's funny that so many people agree, yet we can't seem to figure a way to make it stop

It doesn't make much sense, for sure. Certain sectors get up in arms and vote against more sensible drug laws, every time. Clearly a waste of money and resources to pursue prosecutions for personal drug use. Those same sectors usually vote against stricter regulations about food imports as well. I don't remember many children dying in this country as a result of those China imports. Many pets did though, because of supposed reputable companies outsourcing their business to China.

The "War on drugs" is more a power trip for big government types intent on micromanaging our lives than any kind of safety concern.

As for the importation of poisonous products, they cannot be used to control the people so the various bureaucrats are less concerned as long as the people don't complain too much.

Because our government is no longer our government. It is owned by the owners of this country. The Corporate giants and banks. They got the go ahead to start stealing our country when their propaganda campaign worked for Reagan's election. Are you better off Now? was the slogan. They then proceeded to decimate unions, usury laws, raise taxes on the middle class and lower taxes on the rich. Today the field of play is so lopsided that we are just pawns in a feudal structure. Reagan raised taxes three times and Bush 1 did it once. Not on the wealthiest Americans just the poor and middle class. Reagan was so dead set on taxing the poor that he added income tax to unemployment, welfare and social security benefits. He is thought to be this great president but he was just a bag of wind and a pawn of Donald Reegan who was the head of Goldman Sachs before he became chief of staff.

There are privatized prisons that charge as much as $200 a day per prisoner to allow them to take orders for internet stores. Sort of like interning.

We have been trading with China for many years. They have greed driven corporations over there... just like the rest of the world. Some tainted foods were probably just human error but others were known issues and allowed to take place... just like here. You ever look into the meat industry?

What about the thousands upon thousands who are sacrificed each year because they ingest "legal" drugs made by our pharma industry? There are tobacco, alcohol and pharmaceutical industries that see way too much profit and they don't want any "legalized" competition. It's fine if people are addicted to alcohol, right? It is OK to keep alcohol legal... use poor judgment and drive a machine into innocent bystanders. Just a little mistake. Prohibition didn't/doesn't work.

The MIC (military industrial complex) needs war for their profit margins. It doesn't matter what, or who, the war is against... just make something up.

Then we have the prison system. There is another area where big money is to be made. The future trend will be to privatize. That will lead to the incarceration of people whether they are guilty of crimes or not. The private prisons will need lots of "criminals" to make their profit margins increase.

We have the highest per capita incarceration rate in the free world. There is big money in the prison industry. Both public and private. It is disgusting that you can get out of prison faster for second degree murder, than may non-violent drug offenses.

Without ban on illegal substances there are fewer laws to be broken and less revenue to be had. If nobody has noticed there is a lot of money to be had on the expectation that people are going to do what they want whether it's illegal or not. The idea of the legalization and taxation on marijuana does not hold the same price tag to keeping it illegal and criminalizing the people who do it recreationally.
