Really it depends on the cookie. Oreo's, Famous Amos and Nilla wafers rock crunchy, but home-made stuff should be chewy.

Chewy chocolate chip, chocolate chip oatmeal, or peanut butter cookies. I rarely eat them but when I do, I prefer them to be made from scratch.

There is nothing like a fresh baked hot soft cookie, but at the time time some brand which are bought in boxes are meant to be crunchy, such as Chip's Ahoy or Oreos, and those are good as well.
