First used was an Apple 2e in grad school, but later used a pc at work and got used to it, so that's what I've always had at home. Also have an ipad and iphone so nothing against apple.
Simply because it is easier to customize a PC than a Mac, I use a computer for work that is by necessity graphic intensive. The graphic card alone in my desktop was more expensive than a standard laptop PC, and the memory exceeds any speed achievable by a Mac and is maximized for the bus speed and CPU in my PC.
It has to be as a single use computer dealing with a specific problem. A Mac would be a nightmare to customize even if the parts and software drivers were available which they were not. Mac's are good all-round machines but if you need a specific job done the PC is more versatile when it comes to adapting your machine to that need.
Mac's are fine, but, PC's are more affordable and the fact that Macs may now be susceptible to some viruses, definitely takes some of the shine off as well.

I prefer Mac. I have two Macbook Pro computers. We love them. They have a lot better operating system, and I love how well they're made. You can spend a lot of money trying to fix a PC, whereas a Mac just keeps running and doesn't get viruses. Mac has a lot of free software, too. There's free word processors like Bean and other stuff that's really awesome. I love the Mac user experience. If you can afford it, definitely get a Mac. You can't go wrong.
