There is nothing so beautiful as classical music. You have to sit quietyly and let it take over. I cannot imagine how anyone could compose something so beautiful from their minds.

If you don't like classical, you're deprived and very unsophisticated! (sorry rappers but facts are facts)

"its amazing to me. The power and emotion that music held a zillion years ago...with no lyrics, no drums, no anything. Just a guy, creativity, and and one single instrument."
    -anonymous
something this guy said on youtube about certain classical piece. Loved it , so I borrowed it ;) I'm assuming you mean classical as in a CD you can pick up at Walmart with a mix of lyric less music, -the genre- rather than the actual classical music period of time. That being said, of course classical music is brilliant! You know how much work goes into a single piece, no, a single movement? Puts mainstream music to shame lol But then again, I am a music major so maybe I am biased. ;)....a sidenote, can you imagine how boring movies would be without the scores in the background? It's usually the music more than anything that draw you in. For example:

Classical music is brilliant. Because it's known for heightening the IQ of people and is beautiful. This genre of music has been around longer than modern day genres of music. In classical musician's day and era, Mozart and the like were very famous. Classical music has in fact revolutionized music enough to make such a history of composers!

Classical music can be great, when listening to a good piece it often reminds me of a good film or book where you have a clear beginning, middle and end. It evokes an emotional response. On the other hand there are many pieces of classical music I dislike but the good far out weigh the bad. I also think that where the music is being played contributes largely to whether the music is brilliant or boring. I wouldn't want to go to a club and dance to classical music.

People romanticize it. Sure there are some good works, but on a whole its boring.

Like the folks who prefer typewriters to keyboards, just a romanticized antiquity.

I think the argument is that he can't understand music if he doesn't understand the best music. People don't just 'romanticize' classical music- it's actually just better.
  • Say_wut... Lt. Fred 2012/01/25 14:45:49
    Say_wut_o_O
no.. it all just depends on the persons music taste ? not all people like the same genre or the 'best' songs in the same genre
  • Lt. Fred Say_wut... 2012/01/26 00:32:21
    Lt. Fred
By any objective measure, classical music is better. Both technically and artistically.
  • Say_wut... Lt. Fred 2012/01/26 19:30:34

All music is good ... it just depends on what you like , you can't say your favorite music is the best just because you think it's the best
  • Lt. Fred Say_wut... 2012/01/27 05:11:13
    Lt. Fred
Nope. Technical skill is an objective measure. Artistic merit is not, but I defy anyone to tell me that Beyonce has more artistic merit than Mahler.

Well, people that prefer typewriters are ignorant of how much better a computer is. People that love classical just love classical.

Music taste and technological awareness are two different things altogether.

What's called classical music is to other music as written literature is to Hollywood. It's likely to be more difficult to understand, but it's also likely to be more complex, and just plain better.

That's not a certainty, of course. There's an awful lot of terrible classical music. Also, and I think classical musicians don't acknowledge this, there is a significant amount of popular music with artistic merit.

I realize that I don't know enough about classical music to dismiss it, even though I admittedly often don't find a lot of it appealing. I love melody, but I find that much of classical music lacks that essential quality.

Still, I recognize that the composers who created it were often geniuses of a kind. It's just that their genius goes right past me.

Above all, I hate the word "boring." People who say they're bored are usually empty-minded thrill-seekers unwilling to examine things beneath the surface.

You've been listening to the wrong stuff. Admittedly, many (particularly modern) composers find melody beneath them. They're morons and should be ignored.

I disagree. There is also some scientific evidence that children that listen to classical music grow up to be better at Mathematics and other core subjects. There isn't much to most other genres of music and are very much redundant. Most modern music is basically for people that just go along with whatever pop culture tells them is supposed to be popular.
