It is not mine , I wish it was ..
But it reflects exactly my opinion of the church and organized religion in general..
The one who said this was a brilliant politician, one of the founding fathers who obviously not had the current Fundamental Christian United States in mind when he made this statement in his time ..

This words came from Thomas Paine:
I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church. All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.Just "Google" the title of this post and
you will see I am not making this up..
He wrote a brilliant book
The Age of Reason , that advocates deism,
promotes reason and freethinking, and
argues against institutionalized religion in general and Christian doctrine in particular. He also wrote the pamphlet Agrarian Justice (1795), discussing the origins of property,
and introduced the concept of a guaranteed minimum income. And that in 90's of the 18th century, and they did not call him a socialist of a communist, because that was not invented yet..
Thomas Paine's book was ahead of it's time where it advocates the things the current republican presidential candidate Mutt Rmoney wants to destroy..
Voting republican/conservative
is against all the plans and
visions of this founding father
Thomas Paine YOU ROCK
The bible its a book written by man, for man, to control man. it still contains immoral stories, but thats the whole point! there stories. even if Bible Thumpers argue that they were orginally the word of god, its been translated and re-written so many times by so many different men, that they have all put there spin on the interpretation, so it the word of man!ruined by scribes, ruined by pedophiles in robes, ruined by pharisees, ruined by vatican, by constantine, paul, peter, king james, by the blood of the crusades, the blood of salem, the blood of the inquisition, by the pettiness of Joel Osteens wife, the hypocrisy of Bakker, Swaggart, and many others
I am an atheist and I have also never been terrified or enslaved by any church or religion because I am a freethinker..
But how about all those Hell and Satan stories ? isn't that to scare ?
Religions are still scary ...
So what colour was Jesus?
Without ancestors of the Vikings being part of his family tree, blue eyes were not too likely.
Personally, I am a practicing, Main Line Christian. I go to church every Sunday, I sing in the choir, I teach Sunday School and belong to a women's circle. But I have never asked my Pastor what his political beliefs are because I don't care. By the same token, he has never preached about candidates or had leaflets or brochures in the Narthex to pick up after a service. My Faith is my own and I resent being judged, ridiculed or harassed by the Right for not believing as they do.
Its as simple as that.
If you'll pardon the irony: Amen!
You are in the company of some very intelligent, far-sighted, and highly principled people.
As an adult, I formed my own ideas about religion, but have never felt the need to question the basic values advocated by Christianity, especially as enunciated by Christ himself. Everyone should, however, believe and worship as their own wisdom and consciences dictate.
Though I no longer worship, I still hold to the code of morality that I was taught. It was one of tolerance, compassion, understanding, acceptance, forgiveness, and peace. Love was its highest value. And I have nothing but respect for those who, like yourself, live as sincere Christians by those tenets in their daily lives.
When it comes to people who effectively walk the line between politics and religion, I also respect this woman:
Thanks again...
Couldn't have been put more eloquently and better.
