Child of privilege helps Haiti's orphans--Is it insanity or humanity to drop out of college and dedicate your life to children half a world away?

Finally an American Mother Theresa! What an amazing person.
That's nuts, he could have done more if he went to college, got a job, and then went to help the children.
You!

Aaron Jackson grew up in Destin, Florida, a self-proclaimed child of privilege with golf and sunshine filling most of his days.
In his early 20s he decided to travel, and the experience changed his life. "It really opened my eyes to what the world was really like," he says.
As a result of witnessing extreme poverty abroad, Jackson quit college and eventually headed to Haiti to help children.
In 2004, with money he had earned as a caddie on the golf course, Jackson began setting up orphanages with the help of the Homeless Voice newspaper in Florida.
When he learned that the often-swollen bellies of the children he met were the result of worms, he made it his personal crusade to combat Haiti's infestation with education and deworming medicine.

    wow, this really impresses me..
i have never seen someone in such a young age would actually do this.. mostly on my perspective people in their young ages would care less about others.. (im one of them) and now this young guy actually step up and even gave his future life to help other people.. I believe that throwing your opportunities and giving others that opportunities is wiser than keeping it to your self..
    GOOD JOB!

It is not enough to rave about Aaron's bravery. Did any of you give to his cause?

This is how we can all be, at least in a small way, like the Aaron's of the world. Actions speak louder than poll results.

A person that truely cares about another human being and willing to give up what he has, that is amazing and selfless act.

Very commendable of him to be so unselfish. I hope he does well in his ventures and truly helps those children. If one person can make a difference, imagine what many can do.

Good for him. Most people don't have the guts to do what they really want to and this young man is answering so many people's prayers. I have a friend who's son does this in India and lives in a hut. I can't imagine but he loves it. I believe it's a calling!

He made a selfless choice to put the needs of others ahead of himself. It is a story of self-redemption. How wonderful that he chose early in his life to change for the better. What a contrast to the 'children of privelege' we hear and see so much of in the media.

He found something he could do that would make a difference. He also know that money can't buy happiness and is doing what makes him happy. I wish I had his guts. People like him do make a difference.

I could never do it. I would hope that I could do more good with a college degree than to drop everything and go work in a foreign country.
    More power to him though.

God bless him! Our Caribbean cruise ship made a brief stop in Haiti on the way to San Juan. When my daughter and I saw the poor starving children run to the shore begging, we couldn't turn our heads and walk away. We gave them money although we had been advised otherwise. "Once you give them money, they won't leave you alone," we had been warned. It was true. A large crowd gathered around us and my daughter became frightened. We had to make an exit and run back to the ship with the crowd following. As the cruise ship was departing, the children were swimming after it. Passengers were throwing money to them. The stop at Haiti was a horrible experience. The poverty and smell are beyond belief. I hope the young man can help them in some way.
