  First, the word "celebrity" is overused and poorly defined.
  
  Like the Native Alaskans who have thirty+ words for snow and the Ancient Greeks with their multi-layered levels of human love we need an expanded vocabulary to cover all the rich and famous.
  
  Someone like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates or Henry Ford who actually contributed to the betterment of life on earth should not be mixed in the same bag with an actor whose fame is based on how good they look and sound on camera and the big screen. Or a rock musician who stirs up hormones by screaming the loudest taking money by the fistful from those who have actually worked hard for it.
  
  If someone is famous for doing something real it should be recognized. But when it's just a popularity contest or a beauty show that's something completely different. Let the gossip shows and Paparazzi sort those out. It's after all what they do.

  Most of them are just normal people trying to live their lives. It drives me nuts (I live in LA) when I can't move or get somewhere like the normal person I am because the paparazzi and fans won't let them be the normal people they are. Some invite it in, that's true -- they are douchebags. But most just want to do their thing and be left alone. I don't know why it's so shocking that they do things that the rest of us might.

  There is nothing "normal" about needing to be the center of attention. Any celeb doing anything remotely normal, then there must be reason, e.g. photo shoot, or publicity

  Yes... celebs are hooman beans... the things that make them more distinct is that they're celebs... famous... and they're generally richer than we are...
