Weird but true, I can't eat animals on my uncles farm if I know them, I tried, I also think they taste different than those neatly packaged in my favourite store.

I would not have been able to do that, which was a big part of my decision to not eat animals.

I've been to farms. I have relatives who are farmers. But to have a personal relationship with an animal primarily raised for foos, appears a bit out of the norm

I never had a problem with chickens on my uncles farm - but, as he explained, farmers do not name the cows or pigs or ducks or chickens - would be rather like naming ones hamburger or bucket of chicken.

I am probably able to, if I got really hungry and there was nothing else, but I'd feel terrible. We have chickens in the backyard and I try not to pay too much attention to the little ones because most of the roosters are killed when they are about 6 months old. I know this is necessary because otherwise they'll fight each other to death, so I don't feel bad eating them.

By the way, they taste different because they had a better life.

I guess my taste buds have acquired the store bought taste because I think the store meat taste better.

Though it really helps if I hated the animal for some reason or another.

I've butchered chickens, and helped to raise the pigs we'd send to slaughter, so... yeah. I know where my food comes from.

We used to raise a pig or two every year. If you pet them they will get into the trailer easier when you take them to market.

The reason they taste different is the preservatives they inject store meat with.

Eat a Wild turkey and then try a Store bought one..

Same think with eggs or meat animals you raise yourself.

What happens with the eggs is they feed them with medical feeds to make them produce more eggs, thus affecting the quailty,, then the cold Storage for weeks on end ....

I know, they keep them for months in cold storage. I don't have chickens anymore and I can't allow myself to think about it too much or I won't be able to eat store-bought eggs. I'd eat grass fed beef if I could get it.

I've raised chickens twice for eggs. I don't eat chicken, but I love eggs. I know what you mean about the egg factories. My ex worked in a Jimmy Dean sausage factory once and he still won't eat that brand of sausage. You can't really afford to think about where your meat comes from or you'd be a vegetarian.

I am exactly the same way. Mom keeps threatening our chickens and turkeys saying they will be dinner. Though she would never do it ( she is like me ) I tell her if she does Im going out to eat. I would have a raging fit. I have a cousin that it doesn't bother she would raise pigs for show then eat them I wouldn't go to her house around that time. I knew her pigs.
