Manufacturing costs. It costs the manufacturer a lot less money to mass produce one machine. It would cost a lot of money to make one type of machine for walking up and another for driving up. You'd have to re-tool a completely separate assembly line and hire extra workers to operate that assembly line. Building one model that can be used in either a walk-up or drive-through application saves all kinds of money, especially when you consider the number of units being produced. Moreover, it makes upkeep and repairs simpler when the technician knows needs only one set of tools and parts to fix any machine.
This is a big reason why GM no longer sells 8 brands of cars.
Can someone explain to me why there is braille on drive-thru ATMs?

anyway they only make them ATMs with braille now so it probably seemed pointless to remove them simply because someone reasoned that is wouldn't be useful.
