Im from New York, i love all the seasons from winter to summer, it can get really cold here but i am not bothered by it. Also New York City is filled with stuff to do, you will never be bored, however, compared to other places, NYC is expensive to live in. Also, when people think of NYC they think of Manhattan, but theres 4 more boroughs. there are some quite, spacy areas here, and there are noisy, crowded areas.
California definitely. The only thing fun about NY is NYC. California is diverse and has more than just a city life. More political and just the west coast. Warm beaches, nice people. From LA and Beverly Hills to San Francisco and Berkeley.
I've lived in both places. New York is great, but it's really crowded, and gets really cold in the winter. California is warm, spread out, and has friendly people. not dissing both places, they both have pro's and con's, but i'd go with Cali baby!
California is far from my political cup of tea, but New York City is on the extreme side of authoritarian statism. Combine that with cold weather, cramped living spaces, ridiculously expensive living, a renter's culture (you can't own anything unless you're filthy rich), a reputation for harsh and rude people, thin pizza, and skyscrapers/concrete/hordes of people suffocating me, and I'd have to say New York City is nearly the last place in the country I'd ever want to live.
California on the other hand is an entire state...it's quite diverse, so there's a lot for me to like there. I prefer the quiet life to life in the fast lane, and there are plenty of places in California that aren't as expensive, loud, or urban as NYC. Heck, even some of the cities have a bit of a vacation-like charm that appeals to me. I guess parts of California have a reputation for people being shallow and vain, but it also appears to have a more laid back culture, and the natural beauty and warmth of most of the state make up for a lot. The job market is more up my alley too.
I never have been to either one, I know you are from New York but I think even if I did go to it, I would still prefer California. California is beautiful, not as beautiful as you of course. The West Coast has a lot of beautiful spots though. I never have been to the East Coast though, I want to someday though.
Yeah, upstate New York is beautiful but you asked about New York City. It's a big city and most big cites aren't that beautiful, I never have been though.
New York city is great.Central Park is beautiful. We have museums, the zoo,42 nd St. Movie theaters ,Radio City music Hall Planetariumm, Rocka Fella Center.St.Patricks Cathedrall.great shopping and restaurants. Also the great Boroughh of Brooklyn.
Yeah, I'm sure it is but it seems pretty crowed. There are places in California that aren't populated and you can be by yourself. If it was between California and New York, I don't know which I would choose because I never have been to New York. In my opinion, I really can't compare a city to a sate. The West Coast is beautiful though especially the Pacific Northwest. There are a lot of places in California that are beautiful though. Inland California is less populated then the coast.
Come to upstate N.Y.Lake Placid,Scroon Lake,Lack George. It's beautiful here.Saratoga Race Track,Now that something you have got to see.You won't be disappointed.
i would have to say New York since i was born there and I love it. It's a very, very historical city also. Still...secondly I would say California for it's wonderful beauty, even though i've never been there. I hear it can take your breath away...mabe someday we'll get there! :-)
I live in Manhattan for 6 months 2 years ago, training for my supervisor's position, it was beautiful, I went here and there, I wouldn't mind living there
I love them both equally even though they are so different.
New York is the most vibrant and exciting city I have ever been to. If you can't find something to do here you must be dead.
California has the most wonderful weather and scenery. I love San Francisco and especially Sausalito. I hope to move there in a few years if the economy doesn't wipe us all out first.
As much as I love the East Side PHILLY. I gotta go with California. Something about those California gurls! That and they had and Awesome Govana!!! And of course the San Fernando Valley (Porn Valley)!!
I'll take a whole state over a dirty city with a nutty mayor. Although I just heard the other day that New Yorkers have more sex than anywhere else. There's always an upside!
Of all the cities I've visited across the country... NYC and SF are the Top Two.
Sorry Dallas, Houston, and Austin... you're good.
New Orleans I was just 19 and didn't know where to go so I found it boring.
Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Jackson MS, Atlanta, --- thanks and maybe I'll return.
Cinncinatti, Columbus... not a chance.
Chicago - OH HELL YEAH I would go back.
NY... my first destination would be Marie's Crisis or Lighthouse beach (after I visit with my family)
New York State has lots to see and do, but the upstate area is much the same kind of terrain.
California... one could feasible start the AM snow skiing at Bear Valley (formerly known as Mt Reba), drive to New Melones and water ski and then to the coast and romp in the Pacific Ocean coast line before sunset.
I can leave the cities of either SF or Oakland after brunch and drive north to Sonoma and/or Napa Counties for Wine Tasting for lunch (at this point a designated driver is needed) turn east and go water skiing at clear lake. The next day drive south to San Jose to Great America, then further south just over the grapevine and his Six Flags (of course skipping Marine World just south of Napa County) and arrive ...
Not a fair question and not fair responses.
You're comparing a whole state to New York City?!

LA requires much time to explore.... from the coast up to the foothills.
Then south to San Diego for the same reason - from the coast up to the foothills.
A slight detour to the north to catch a ferry in Long Beach to Catalina Island.
I'm a native New Yorker. Born and raise on Long Island, I miss swimming in the Atlantic Ocean or the Great South Bay in the summer, I miss the pizza (sorry Chicago, just not the same and just not as good) and the deli's.
I've been in California since I was 19 and I don't miss NY (I miss the fam, the food the beach) but I am a Californian (yes, a transplant).
NY has lots to offer, but not near the cultural, geographical treasures that California has.
