Wild ones or those raised for food or fur or both are rabbits. Sometimes I might say cottontail to be a little more precise. But when I say cottontail I omit "rabbit."
And jack rabbits are always jack rabbits, never just rabbits or bunnies.
Truthfully I say, bunny-rabbit, I also say puppy-dog & kitty-cat lol I know that aren't one words but I make them out that way. More like a contraction.
