Breastfeeding in Public: Natural or Offensive?

OMG!!! Only in America. I can't believe we are having this discussion. It's natural people! It's what us women have been doing for ages. I never once contemplated whether or not I was offending anyone when it came time to breastfeed my baby in public. My baby's health and comfort trumps all of you. For those of you who are offended by a mother feeding her baby in public, you need to grow up. And just to make a point, here is a photo of me breastfeeding. Get over it!!!

It's natural and always will be if people understand... I breast feed in public all the time and never got even glare. I get told a lot how awesome of a mother I am for doing what is healthier for my baby who's almost 7 months old now. I think it's disgusting of people to tell mothers to go to the bathroom to nurse their baby or put a blanket over. Not all babies can handle a being cover and not all can handle a bottle. Being a young 19 year old mother, it's very rare my age to even breast feed because we been told formula is same as breast milk which it's not! I educated people my age to consider breast feeding and don't be afraid or let anyone tell them other wise.

It is natural, beautiful and NEEDS to happen! :-D

People, men in particular, should stop seeing women's breasts as sexual objects.

David, as a breastfeeding mother I have found that more women than men seem to have a problem with it. It is so sad.

I think it's perfectly acceptable. I have been with a travel nurse agency for a while, and in my travels I have seen a lot of mothers. It's something that has to be done, and most people tend to agree and understand.

What do they want you to do, starve a hungry baby? Jeez, most breast-feeding mothers show less than the teenagers in the mall. People should tend to their own business and leave mothers and their babies alone. If you don't like it, don't look.

The first time I saw that was 25 years ago in the Philippines. I thought it would seem weird but after about 10 seconds it just seemed totally natural. No big deal.

Nursing mothers should be discreet, of course, but they shouldn't need to go hide. We ALL walk around with genitalia in public after all. It's just silly what people worry about.

Breast feeding is as natural as giving birth itself, how dare people try to make a woman feel bad about something so natural. All brands of infant formula should be banned off the shelves to encourage breast feeding. Unless it is prescribed by a doctor, for special cases like if the Mom has to take medication ...

We are humans our babies need human milk , we don`t give birth to cows, goats, or cans of formula...why would we want to feed our babies anything but human milk.

Fight back, by breast feeding in public and if other people get offended they can go "F " themselves.
It`s also one of the sweetest moments between mother and child, the milk is always ready and warm, no need to clean bottles...

When baby's got to eat, baby's got to eat. Most women throw a small towel over themselves anyway.

Just because you find it "discussing" doesn't mean it is, we are the only country that has a problem with this, it's stupid. What is so unclassy about a baby being fed? You fail at English too.

Maybe woman who don`t find it proper don`t want their men to see the boobs, ? My Mom was from a similar era when doctors brainwashed women into thinking their breast milk was of an inferior quality to formula, or cows milk. That idea is an idea that should stay in the past where it belongs, The thinking has to change.

Actually in the past breast feeding was just a natural thing in public. They didn't have bottles. Man made breasts a sexual thing not God.

Bottles are a recent invention. What do people think moms did before then. If someone doesn't like it don't look.

Believe me you did not hurt my feelings. What I said is what I meant. We all have our little likes and dislikes and what others would refer to as our perversions. However if someone gets a sexual kick out of seeing a baby breast fed and if it does not bother the woman doing the breast feeding then what is the problem? I mean if one puts something out in the open then one accepts that different people are going to look at it differently. People have been made shy about the body and that is a shame because it only leads to them feeling bad about themselves

I am not a pervert. If a mother wants to feed her baby, as nature intended, I certainly am not going to tell them to stop... because I am not a ignorant pervert.

You and I may not be, but there are countless people who are. This fact cannot be denied. Again, why is having bottled milk such a problem?

Bottled milk for some babies causes nipple confustion, also some babies refuse to take a fake nipple. In addition breast pumps are expensive and not every mother can afford one. There are a lot of things less natural that people do in public as well. It doesn't matter if it "attracts perverts" when my kid needs to eat he needs to eat. Breastfeeding in public is so important. So many young mothers today do not even consider breastfeeding an option, formula is pushed on them so hard, they forget that they have an amazing way to feed their baby and keep them healthy.

If I were a woman, I would feed my child well before thinking about how I may be embarrasing perverts.

You can feed your child just find, in the privacy of something people like to call a "bathroom" too. There's no reason to do it out in the open.

You don't need a birthing room; a regular bathroom is good enough. At least it's better than the middle of a shopping mall, anyway
