A 15-year-old boy was killed after being tasered in his Bay City, Michigan home during a dispute with cops. Two police officers were called to an apartment complex after they received complaints about two men fighting. When the officers arrived on scene the young boy attacked them and was fatally tasered. Should the police officers be charged or was it just an accident resulting from self defense?

There is a line in which a suspect can be considered a victim and I do not feel the police crossed the line in this instance. It is extremely unfortunate that a young life was lost, that a mother lost her son; however, the fact remains that he ran from the police. At the time of the incident police would have no way of knowing his mental health, if he was violent in nature, wanted, armed, etc....if their intention was to harm this kid, they would have SHOT him and came up with a story. Instead, they used a method in which they have been trained and authorized to utilize in order to subdue someone. The mother is claiming this to be murder......if that is how she feels, who is she claiming for the murder 1.) Herself for not knowing where/what her 15 yr child, with a learning disability, was doing? 2.) The cousin that her son was driving around with for having him in an 'illegal vehicle? Of course not, let's blame the police so we can sue........let's cry victim, but try to benefit financially - the last I checked, money doesn't make people rise from the dead. Try pointing the finger of blame in the right direction.....

This is why I believe officers should always review (in general)someones medical history. Like for instance, if someone has a history or might have a hereditary history of neurological problems, they might want to avoid the taser.

When do you suggest they look into medical history during a foot pursuit? Anfd you usually need some type of personal data to do that, since the kid ran before the cop even got out of the car, guess they couldnt get that either. Hmmmmmm

There are other effective ways to get a person to work with you a 15 year old boy is most likely to follow police orders if they talk him through it I think the police force should take cases like this into account and find better ways of punishment.

Nikky believe it or not you can't talk to everyone some people get worked up and others want the taser request the tazer. If you've ever scene a cop walking through a high school or fair ground with a tazer on him there a crowd of people asking if they can get tazzed. If I was 15 and a cop broke up one of our football parties, and he had a tzzer. I'd strip down threaten to shove it up his arse and charge him , just to put pon a show for my boyz.

they didn't have to use a taser. i mean, what happned to good ol' pepper spray? the worst it could do is probably make you blind (worst case scenario) but it wouldn't be death.

I believe that both are at fault. Mostly because the boy was in the wrong for attacking the police officers, I mean what did you think would happen? But the police could have let up before they killed him, I've never personally been tasered or seen anyone getting tasered, but I'm sure just a little zap would have calmed him down enough to get the point across.

Could be from a number of factors. The cops are the main one.

The first time this sort of thing happened, it was the RCMP, it was the only time in my life where I felt ashamed to be Canadian.

Now this sort of thing is happening everywhere.

"Don't tase me bro" is never going to go away, is it?

main sort rcmp life felt ashamed canadian sort tase bro

was probably from using cocaine or having an up-til-then undiagnosed heart or brain problem. As to whether is was legitimate self-defense, we aren't really given enough info. I'd tend to feel it was legal and legit. self-defense, as these officers did attempt to restore peace using a taser instead of using a gun. The guns they would have had on them too, and could just as easily used instead.
It's unfortunante, but in this case, the poor kid probably would have been better off had they used the guns. He probably would have suffered a bad wound, but death would not have been nearly likely.

When the cops show up, you say "yes sir", or " yes officer". It is not their job to settle disputes. That is the job of the court system. When the police are called, it is their job to restore order. If you resist, they're bringing an @ss whippin'
    with them.
