As a child did you get random gifts?

We only received large gifts on Christmas and Birthdays, never did we get a gift over twenty US dollars throughout the year, but for my nieces and nephews I've noticed they get large gifts randomly.

+4I got the usual Xmas and Birthday gifts, and the once my Dad hit the baseball pool at work (and I was struggling with this old cheap guitar), so he went out and bought me a brand new Gibson Dove dreadnaught.
