As a Caucasian American, do you owe reparations to the descendants of slaves?

Absolutely, unequivocally NO. NOT AT ALL. It is one of the biggest, ongoing, hate mongering non-issues being perpetuated by the likes of bald face racists like Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, & Luis Farrakhan. Barack Obama, and other black race baiters with their cancerous hands perpetually extended trying to get something for nothing, creatures like Sharpton and Jackson have done more damage to the healing of race relations than practically anyone else. Jackson, the fat man who never missed a meal; 40 to 60 pounds overweight, what has he accomplished for his people. And let's call a spade a spade, Obama had touched the flames of racial discord at every opportunity. Ask yourself, honestly, would you be better off if Jackson and Sharpton had never reared their ugly faces in your life? I think the great majority, with the capacity to be honest, will have to admit that nothing good has ever materialized from these poisonous vipers involvement. They are only interested in stirring-up trouble to keep their mugs in the news and the contributions continuing to fatten their coffers. nothing more and noting less. I am deeply surprised and deeply saddened that the wise people and people with character seem to have taken seats in the back of the bus while Obama is attempting to drives.

I owe no one and slavery has been part of human suffering going back before the birth of Jesus, and color made no difference.

    No!

I don't like the fact that there are charlatans who would seek to rip at the seams of this country. We have a Black man in the White House and a Mormon and a Catholic running against him. America is well on her way to dropping silly prejudices. That's pretty cool.

Wait a "cotton picking" minute! I'm not going to allow you to make false statements like that. President Obama NEVER have and doesn't support reparations. You may disagree with his policies, but I think it is VERY irresponsible to call President Obama a racist and a race baiter.

Now, I'm not a huge fan of President Obama, Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson... but I would NEVER publish anything that is inaccurate as what you've posted.

It think it is based on the teachings Rev Wright did which the BLT theology does demand reparations. It also espouses total support for the beloved homeland.

My theory-GO HOME if you worship that war torn, starving, rape pillaged land.

I'm not going to pin everything Mr. Wright (I refuse to call him REV) says or said on President Obama. Mr. Wright is another topic for another day.

I'm not sure what you're talking about in referring to "go-home?" I was born in Dover, Del., and I am an American so I really hope your theory wasn't addressed to me.

You also have to remember that we live in a very diverse country, and some people may have different political views than yourself.

I don't believe in reparations to Blacks or decendants of slavery.

Finally, some of the African nations are unfortunately war torn, starving, rape pillaged land, but we all in the industrialized nations had our hand in why their country is the way they are today. We shouldn't take ALL the blame, but our interest is soley not on humanitarian causes only. Natural resources is our number #1 goal. But then again, we the people of the US lead the way when it comes to helping others throughout the world.

With our problems, I strongly affirm that we live in one of the greatest Nations in the world. I sure as heck don't see other people breaking their necks trying to get into Canada, England, Germany, or France. :)

I chose undecided basically because I didn't agree with the harshness of the NO answer as a choice. My answer though is No, I am not nor ever was a slave owner. It is illegal and immoral to claim ownership of another human being and as such, not something I would ever gain from other than a trip straight to Hell upon my death here on earth. And, at the same time, it's safe to say that no one can living today can declare that they are or ever was a slave. To try and gain any kind of reparations for actions from peoples in a past are just as likely to see that journey upon there demise as well.
We are, what, 4 generations since emancipation and though I wouldn't categorize that as ancient history, I would state that it is time to recognize that we do not live in those times anymore. A Black American sits in the Oval Office of the Presidency of the United States and if that isn't proof enough that society, as a whole, has moved on.. well, than it's too sad. I also say the same argument holds true for Native Americans or any other race that was persecuted in the past.
None living today were involved with the atrocities of the past and though it should never be forgotten, at the same time we should all continue on a path of healing and acceptance.

If anyone does it's the greatest of slavers, the French, Spanish, Portuguese, and English.... they created the collection centers, built and owned the slave ships...and profited the most.... Pay such reparations and we better pay the Irish Americans and the Chinese Americans, whose bones our railroads and canels are built on!

Tribal leaders in Africa benefited the most, they made war against each other and sold the losers at the docks, therby enriching themselves to gain more power, better warriors and more slaves to sell.

That continent has not largely changed in several hundred years, war, slavery, oppression, starvation, refugees fleeing their homes to avoid said disasters and the rape and murder of the women and children.

    Your picture is a lie.
If the Black guy was that big, he wouldn't ask. It should be a small child compared to grown man, in relation to material power.

    This picture is more realistic.

Reparations? Where are mine? After all, my forebearers were dirt poor. Discrimination? Here's a little piece of American history for you - The first race riot in America was in New York City in 1848 between the free blacks and the Irish. The Irish were all upset because they were afraid the free blacks would get jobs and no one would hire them. Back in that day, there was nothing lower than an Irishman, yet no one of Irish decent is demanding anything today. The only thing this country owes us is an equal chance at opportunity for success, not equal outcome.

    Signs of the times--->
    No Irish allowed

    No Irish allowed

    No Irish allowed

First of all, I have no allegience whatsoever to my "color". It's merely the way the DNA came out. I don't identify with "white" causes at all.

Second of all, for me, personally, my ancestors came to the U.S. in the late 19th Century, several decades after the abolition of slavery. AND they came to New York, which didn't have slavery even before the Civil War, AND they were poor immigrants from East Europe with no money for slaves.

    So, in short, no.

The point of the civil war was not to end slavery, it was about states rights.

And since the south lost, the FED has been effing the states and ignoring their rights.

No way! Ancient history. I might as well ask the Danes or the Swedes for reparations for invading my country 1200 years ago!
Besides, how many black people would want to be living back in West Africa? It's an absolute hell-hole!

Talk to England. They are the ones who set slavery up in this country. Slavery existed for less than 90 years in the USA and that was over 150 years ago. Get over it.

I'm so tired of poverty pimps like Jackson and Sharpton crying that the reason that present day blacks can't be a success is that their ancestors 150 years ago were slaves and should be paid off because of that. Nobody born then is alive now. What some of these people need to do is to take their own destiny in their hands and get a education and try and better themselves and not wait for a handout.

this question is false and misleading, no white person is alive today who enslaved anyone; BUT the system / government / economy that did enslave africans and profited immensely IS still alive and still profiting from those ill gotten gains. therefore the government / economy DOES owe reparations to the descendents of those people who were systematically deprived of the fruit of their labor, the form of this reparation is yet to be decided.

Reparations for slavery? Only if those demanding reparations agree to renounce their US citizenship and return to Africa.
