Are you the type of person that has to make everything about yourself?

Example: If someone is talking about how they have such a big headache and instead of saying you want me to get you something you say thats nothing my headache is a lot more severe and I've had it for two days.

I was also horrid about having the last word for some reason. Don't ask me why because I have not come up with a good reason.
If someone gives me a compliment, my mother chimes in "She's just like her mother." If someone compliments me on something I've cooked she will say "You know I made sure everyone of my girls could cook..."
If you say, "Mommy, I had a migraine all day at work today." She interrupts with a blood curdling "How do you think that makes me feel? My child all the way over there suffering and I can't get to her!"
She is an amazing, accomplished human being... And she really make sure everyone knows it.
The only time I will bring up a similar personal thing is to keep a conversation going or to commiserate with their pain so I can give them advice that works for me.
I hate one-up-manship.
First I would ask them if I could get them something for their headache then I would talk about mine. This is a very bad habit I need to work on breaking.
There are very few actual altruists in the world.
