...religion is about control, and there are enough people trying to control me (think koch brothers, karl rove, people like that) without welcoming another controlling influence like religion...

I am spiritual and believe in God but cannot stand man made religions and that would be all of it. It is controlling, selling a specific brand with a false bill of goods. Uses the man made bible or other book as the so called continual proof of nothing.

You can't know if you are Religious.Only someone on the outside looking in can see you as Religious if you are but you can't see it.If you do then you are fooling yourself.

I despise organized religion because they all think they are right and all are to some degree - but they all have major flaws, too. I prefer to not think of religion, per se, but of being a truly spiritual person and wanting to live my life in such a manner that others want to live theirs the same. That sounds rather corny, but...

I used to be religious but I can no longer really find myself going down that path again. I have drifted away from any religion as it was more of a headache for me to try and force myself to believe in something.

I wish there was a I'm just a religious person answer. I don't like it when people call us who love Jesus and God religious freaks I think it's insensitive, I don't call atheist non believing idiots so don't call me a freak is how I feel. I think everyone deserves their own free speech regardless of religion or view or preference and I think God cares more about the good a person has done in the world than whether your a muslim, catholic, jewish whatever. I'm sure every atheist or pagan does not go to hell.

I follow my own being. I'm not of the religious freaks who try to spread the word about it though. We all see it when we are close to death. Even though I don't follow the Lord. I try to avoid say His name just in case.

I'm just in the middle, I'm an Atheist but I don't hate all religious people. I only get angry when the really religious people tell me I'm going to hell for not believing in God.

I believe in none of them. It pisses me off because so many people are always shoving their religious crap in my face telling me that I'm going to burn in hell if I don't start believing in god. And it gets annoying.

While I do not share your veiwpoint on religion, I respect it. Try to think of it as they are concerned for your spiritual well being. It is nice to have someone who cares, so thank them for their concern. Life is too short to become angry and bitter of a simple difference in philosphy. A series of polite "No"'s usually works much better than indignation.
