I began smoking when I was 9; by the time I was 13 I was smoking a pack a day. By the time I was 15 I was smoking 2 + packs a day. The first time I quit I was 18 - I made it a year or so. When I was younger I was able to quit with a decision and a couple of weeks of hell - I would make it for 6 months, 9 months, 2 years, etc. When I was in my late 30's I made it for 3 years and 9 months, I have not been able to quit for more than 11 days since then, and of that 11 days, 5 days were in the hospital with double pneumonia. I have tried Chantix (made me crazier than going cold-turkey), hypnotism, behavior modification, and numerous other methods. In 2008 I was smoking 2-1/2 packs a day, I cut down to 1 pack a day until last fall, now I average 7-10 ciggs a day - a tremendous improvement, but not ideal. I just can't seem to get below that level without going bonkers, but I will never give up until I am smoke free.

    Congratulations on 9 years!

And last, I'm addicted to mental pain.

I was always more habitual than addictive. I was a smoker from 16 to 34, then I got sick & didn't smoke for a bit & a bit turned into a week, Then it just kept going. The only thing I miss about smoking is having something to do with my hands.

    Congratulations! ^-^

Food and Self Injury. Both are a struggle , but I haven't SI in a while now, but I still think about it and have times where I want nothing more than to SI. If I don't do that, I use food as my crutch. There are worse addictions, though.

A great accomplishment for you!!!! I am not really addicted to anything. I do love chocolate and my sugar free mocha frappe but I can go days without either one.

I've been addicted to and gotten out of many habits so far. I used to self harm, still not totally over that, but I'm working on it. Cigarettes, got out of. A couple other things I don't want to mention and haven't gotten out of.

Congratulations on your success too! :)

Thanks to stress, depression, boredom, health and emotional issues, it's back to...
stress depression boredom health emotional issues pornography addict
this again...though not quite as bad as it had been before I became a nudist.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to even invent this kind of stuff, NICE GOING! I mean that sarcastically, by the way. I wish it never existed in the first place. Now, it's a multi-billion (yes, with a B) dollar industry. Sex should be a natural thing among consenting adults behind closed doors...not a sick perversion meant to entertain, entice, arouse, or lust over by others. What would this world be like if there was no such thing as pornography? Would it be better? Worse? Same? I think I should ask this and post it as a question, which I will as soon as possible.

No, not everyone has that whatever is necessary to become addicted . . .. Or is lacking whatever is necessary to not become addicted, etc. There is either something in the brain or else something that the brain does not have to promote addictions. Someday, the politicians will allow Medical Science to pursue that venture to figure it out . . .
