My car has ABS and Traction Control. No fear here, however I do become worried when everyone around me does 20-30 under the limit, to be frank it pisses me off.
ABS and Traction Control won't help you if you can't see through the curtains of water. And remember, not everyone has all the bells and whistles you do. It's very sensible to slow down in the rain.
Depends on the severity of the rain. I hate ball-less drivers who freak out when it snows or rains a little. For those instances of heavy rain, I use a combination of LOTS of rain-x with weatherbeater wiper blades.
ABS and Traction Control do nothing to prevent hydroplaning. Go ahead and be pissed off. You'll be one of those who says after the crash, "That wasn't supposed to happen! I had ABS and Traction Control!" And it'll be everyone's fault except yours, in your mind.
More cautious, this because driving conditions are not ideal and to some extent impair visibility and control of the vehicle particularly if the vehicles of others are not up to standard.
If my tires were bald and wipers fouled I'd be concerned. Otherwise I only have to look out for drivers whose cars did have bald tires and rotten wipers.
Visibility, traction variables, flooding (even 1/4 in. at freeway speeds can be dangerous), and of course, stupid drivers get MORE dangerous in bad conditions.
But,I just don't like those people who think that they can drive just as fast when it's raining or (the roads are wet )like they do on a sunny day.Slow down, the roads are slippery when wet.
No. Snow doesn't bother me, either. Graduates of the 'Chicken Little School of Driving' that always react to inclement weather with "OMG!! THE SKY IS FALLING!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!" infuriate me! Can't handle it, STAY HOME!
No need to be afraid.
I bet the difference is I'm in New England and we know how to drive in snow, know when to be cautious.
My car now has an anti-hydroplaning feature that is amazing. It surely saved my ass one day.
In California, when it rains, people die.
