Are you afraid to die?

If so why? Personally, I'd like to go to God and say. Thank you Lord. That was fun. Yes, i'm a sinner too. But if you don't phyisically hurt people or impede them in any way. I doubt you will go to hell.

I have no fear of the actual death itself. I fear the PAIN precedent to death. Hello. I'm an admitted coward. So sue me. I have no fear of hell or whatever. I've lived a pretty decent life, done the Golden Rule stuff, been a regular person. I honestly can hardly wait to see my sister again, and my parents, and then a bunch of my friends from high school that I miss dearly. Got no problem with dying and seeing them all again. In fact, looking forward to it. Now if only somebody can come up and guarantee me that I'll just doze off and that's it. Ahhh, is that asking too much? Probably, but one can always hope....

I'm not in the slightest afraid of death-it's inevitable and in it's way just as 'natural' as
birth. If I WERE to fear anything,it would be the decline in health and vitality that so often is a part of the ageing process and often precedes the actual act of 'dying'...

I'm not sure if I fear being dead or dying itself. I know I'd hate to be told I only have a limited time left.

I do want to meet God and you have a great attitude. But life with God will be for eternity. I can wait a little bit. earthly life is all a blink in the context of eternity. Plus i want to stay and help my family for as long as I can.

Not at all! If there is an afterlife, I welcome the adventure, secure in the knowledge that I have lived my life with compassion for other living beings. If there is no afterlife, I will hardly know the difference!

    BTW: Excellent question!

I am not afraid to die because it has been happening to everyone for a very long time and is part of the natural cycle of things.
I do however hope that i do not have to experience a lot of pain for a long time at the time of my death.

Everybody's afraid to die, or of some aspect of death, to some degree. If they say otherwise they're lying or haven't seriously thought about it. Sure, as time goes on I fear it less and less, but I still fear it.

I stand by what I said. Everyone is afraid of some aspect of death, and/or to some degree. The fear of death is as much biologically engrained as psychologically.

I can understand your need to to project your insecurity onto others. That is basic psychology 101. Your inability to accept what others tell you is a deep seated fear and total lack of any ability to understand anything that you have never experience on your own. That is what a lack of intelligence and no education does.

Only religious people fear death as they have no confidence in their ability to lead a moral life and they fear their maniacal god.

"I can understand your need to to project your insecurity onto others. That is basic psychology 101."

ROFLOL! Excellent come-back. (Actually, I'm not totally uneducated. I've an associate's degree in social work and another B.S. besides.)

FWIW, though, I base my theories regarding the subject on the biologically hardwired fear of death as opposed to the spiritual or religious angst.

You obviously make HUGE assumptions about many things.

Fear may be biologically hardwired, but that does not necessarily mean fear of death is.

I am not uneducated either. Many peole are not afraid to die. For me that is nothing to be afraid of and I cannot even understand what there is to fear.

The issues when you know that gods do not exist, you have no anxiety.

I think we've just come full circle. To wit:

Hey, I understand the need for you to delude yourself. :-)

We'll just have to agree to disagree. No sense in either of us getting torqued over something so silly. Peace.

Isn't it the fact that you can't prevent it that makes it fearful for some people?
  • Denny Dave Sa... 2012/08/22 20:32:07

Why??? Every part of life dies, you would think maybe these persons would get the idea after all the centurys. Question for me is what makes them think they are that important that they can skip it???

Most people don't love one century.

Well, think of it this way - If you didn't exist, you wouldn't know anyone else existed, so their existence, from a personal point of view, does depend on you.
