No, not at all. I catch and release black widows when I find them on my turf. I hold most species in my hand, depending on how bad they can bite. If they really can't hurt me, why be afraid?
Okay, it's like this. Yes, I have the fear of spiders...arachnophobia. But, my case seems to be mild, rather than severe, depending on species. I can handle small harmless spiders. But, when it comes to larger and especially poisonous spiders, that's where I have problems with my phobia. One species I adore is the jumping spider.
It is just too cute for words. lol
I can tolerate wolf spiders, but that's about as large as I can handle them without feeling too much discomfort. Now, I want to face my fear and overcome it, but I don't know how to do it. I want to be able to pick up and hold tarantulas and poisonous spiders without feeling nervous, sweaty, uneasy, or feeling panicky. The only poisonous spider I have come in contact with...it crawled across my hand once...is a black widow spider.
But, I was feeling uncomfortable and nervous about letting it crawl across my hand. If I can overcome this arachnophobia, I believe I may be brave enough to let a much more dangerous spider crawl on me without such nerve-wracking feelings. Okay, maybe not quite that brave. But, I would like to hold a black widow and a brown recluse someday without feeling uneasy. I'm hoping I can do that if I can overcome this fear. Anybody that knows how to cure others of this phobia...

Yes. I hate spiders. I got bit by a darn spider bite on the back of my knee and the mark is still there! I believe in keeping them alive outside of my home to tame the insect population or whatever. I even teach my daughter that, leave spiders alone that are outside alone b/c they are doing their job........BUT in my house - they better bend over with all of their eyes and kiss their butt goodbye!!!
