To some extent. I'm not afraid when I'm in a building. I could walk up and press my body against the glass of a window without fear but get me up on the roof and I won't come within 5 feet of the edge.
In the immortal words of the great Gary Cooper, "Yep" I can fly because there are walls around me and I'm looking out a window. Let me walk out on some tower or climb a ladder and there is no way I can let go to step over to say a roof.
Just looking at this picture makes me feel off balance lol OK, so a lot of you said this very thing, I don't understand it. So when you go up high do you get nervous but in your mind know that ok it's not because this is so high, its because I know there's a possibility I could fall? For me, I get nervous way before I am even halfway to being high & high to me is at the top of a ladder!
No, I'm not nervous being high and looking down, as long as the footing is good. For example, going up in a skyscraper and looking out off the observation platform is no problem. I could go up in Willis (formerly Sears) Tower and look down, but I'd pass on the see-through floor. I don't want even the sensation that I might fall.
I can climb ladders and hike on high paths. I can walk over bridges and look down, even when they're high. I hate high mountain roads with steep cliffs, unless *I* am driving.
I look at those mountain roads on t.v. & there's no way! Someone would have to seriously knock me out before ever taking me on one of those. You know the stairs like in an office building with nothing in the center, you can look down all the way down to the bottom? One peek & all I can picture is someone plummeting or falling to their death. Those things should be covered!
You would seriously hate the Northwest. There are hills and mountains everywhere. You can't drive across the state without going over a mountain range, unless you go south and follow the Columbia River. That has some high places, too! This is a pic I took in the Canadian Rockies at a place called Marble Canyon. I think this view is of the box canyon from a foot bridge, but the trail went up along the side, too. I don't mind the height, provided I good footing. ;)
Yeah, you wouldn't see me anywhere near that, because I'm also not keen on water, not a good swimmer. So If I didn't die from a fall I'd die from drowning! I'm going to have horrible nightmares lol Looking at the picture it's pretty! ;-)
It's beautiful and well worth the hike. I couldn't get my ex to haul his lazy butt up there, but it was worth it for me. I hadn't hiked it since I was like 15 or 16. It hadn't changed much, but *I* sure moved a lot more slowly. The path is safe--there's a fence along the water side. You wouldn't want to fall in the water--glacier fed and swift and cold, but you'd have to jump in to do it. A slip might brush you up to the fence, but you won't go into the water.
Falling? YES!
