Are the huge number of spelling and grammatical errors on here down to ignorance or trying to appear 'cool'?

The vast majority of posts, both questions and answers, have numerous spelling and/or grammatical errors. Is this because people are ignorant of how to use the language or are they trying to give the impression that they are young and trendy?

I blame a lot of it on droid, and then there is the 2inch keyboard and long fingernails.

Maybe a bit of both. But this is a conversation site, and if one were to type it just exactly as they would say it then that's probably what will keep coming. I sometimes type it exactly as I would speak it.

(I hope I didn't make a boatload of mistakes in typing this one, lolz.)

Funnily enough I use the saying it aloud option to check certain things... the right your/you're, their/there/they're, etc.

I don't actually. I learnt the rules years ago and stick by them.

I've pretty much got the to/two/too and all the ones you listed, but I don't know why the then/than occasionally hangs me up.

And then there is the spelling of certain sneaky words. I've got to stop and think, or look them up again. Lol, I guess my head just can't hold everything I'm trying to cram into it. Sigh...

Than is used only in comparisons (Tom is smarter than Bill, This is more important than you might think.), so if you're comparing something use than. If not, then you have to use then.

Spelling can be tricky but I make sure that the spelling checker is always on and double check anything underlined in red!

Sometimes I just can't remember how to spell words. The only one I miss spell is Labama. Only because he deserves it for what he's doing to my country. I still don't think he is a legal citz.

A number of sodaheads aren't native to English, and a LOT of them are kids. Hopefully, some of the clarity will return when school starts up again. ,':O\

To be honest a lot of the people I know who don't have English as a first language tend to speak it a lot better than most of the natives I mix with!

I think I learnt more about syntax and grammar from being taught Latin and French than I did from being taught English! Maybe learning it as a foreign language means you are actually taught the rules rather than picking them up by exposure to them.
