quit getting so bent out of shape over something that doen't effect you try living in the south people pronounce words crazy around here used to drive me nuts but i geuss i had to get over myself.

I don't care what you call it as long as I have some around when I paint ,otherwise things will get paint on them that truely were not meant to be that color. It is just to bad I cannot duct me, I'm a bit messy.

dammit, I meant "no", and for two reasons..because the 't' is SO subdued in the pronunciation of d-u-c-t, and because the word t-a-p-e starts with a 't'...(in fact, say "duct tape" pronouncing both the 't' in duct AND the 't' in tape and see how awkward it feels and sounds..)

It's hard to catch onto what the difference is between duck and duct when it's just heard orally - I've thought of it as duck tape through secondary school!

Because referring to something by its brand rather than by it actual name really grinds my gears.

It doesn't matter if duck is a brand, it is duct tape.
Also don't call paracetamol 'panadol', don't call all cola 'coke', don't call all lemonade 'sprite' etc.
Calling something by its brand means that you are stupid enough to have fallen for that companies advertising.

It is an Australian thing....
Sprite is a fizzy lemon flavoured drink, making it lemonade.
Our 'traditional lemonade' is what you would call lemonade.

'Stupid" is the wrong word. Like it or not Duct has been misheard as Duck a million times. Regardless of what the creator called it in his workshop its probably going to be called duck tape as long as they make the stuff.

Maybe confused as you see it with Either Or names depending on who the manufacturer is. Here is an article who discovered it and was making it for the Military. And I'd be willing to bet that women use it more now days then men.......we don't know how to most things like men so we duct tape it! :-)
