But I an understad why people want to believe that - we're being trained to have a 20 second attention span, so people can seem vapid when you give them all of 15 seconds to let you know who they are.

I don't think so. most people are genuine, but it only takes one person who is fake and they will be the ones you remember above all the genuine ones.
