It depends. Clown dolls and serial killer clowns are always terrifying. However, there are some clowns that look like they couldn't hurt a fly and are quite friendly.
Of course they are scary. Didn't you learn your lesson for keeping a clown doll in your room: Carol Anne and her brother learned from the clown all right.
