I'm a very shy and quiet guy and I have trouble making friends and meeting people. So how do I break out of my shell and meet people and make friends?

go to summer camp. for me, i just got back, and the little girls helped. Lil kids don't care how you look or who you are...don't really see all your flaws...so talkling to them makes me feel better and then not so ...inferior (lol..) when talking to ppl my age or close or older...

unless u hate kids o.o

oh, also, this place can help too. you can find someone who seems to agree on the same topics and try corresponding. it can help you learn how to control conversation and find similarities, especially since this site is loaded with unmasked opinions. i used to be really shy, so i totally understand, but when you find someone, it gets easier each time

start by talking to friends of friends. find something in common, or crack a joke. it really helps if you are really passionate about something and can talk about it a lot. start building up, and just remind yourself that you cant make a fool of yourself unless your worry till you do.

I'm a shy person too, so I kind of know how you feel.
Are you in school? If you are, try to take notice and see if anyone in your classes seems lonely all the time. Those people are typically the nicest, and they can probably relate to how you feel. That way, you can kill two birds with one stone: the person isn't lonely anymore, and you aren't either.
I know first-hand that this works because I'm still in school and that's how I make friends.
If you aren't, go to places in your area like concerts and such. In places like that, you can meet people who also have similar interests to your own.

I'm on my summer vacation. Those are actually some good suggestions I will try to put them into effect in the fall. At my college it's so hard to find people like me but maybe starting with the person who seems lonely is a good start. As for concerts, I am going to one this Thursday so maybe I will take some action.

Thanks for complimenting my suggestions. Like I mentioned before, I know they work, so it's unlikely that there will be any problems.

Thanks so much for a start and wishing me luck. The only problem that might happen with the school one is finding someone who seems lonely since so far during my first year there I barely found a lonely person but you never know this time around

It's no problem at all.
As far as finding someone who is lonely, I understand how that could potentially be a problem since it is difficult at times. Sometimes, you have to pay really close attention. Sometimes the people who make the best friends blend in with everyone else...but when you find someone, it's worth the effort.
Don't worry, you'll do fine. :)
