    Over the history of man, in North America the only native peoples who made any form of alcoholic beverage were the Apaches, who made tiswin (used largely ceremonially). Which means the rest were never exposed to the poison alcohol. You see, repeated low level exposure, over centuries, will cause the body to adapt. Indigenous peoples of North America do not develop an enzyme that is necessary to the processing of alcohol due to the lack of exposure, long term (centuries) to that poison.
