...it's not addictive, it's vastly less physically destructive and vastly less harmful generally..and I've smoked it for about 50 years now, moderation being the key!(remember, a friend with weed is a friend indeed...)
The worst things that I've ever done while drunk:
- Started fights
- Acted obnoxious around women
- Slept with some obnoxious women
- Drove around not caring what happened to myself or others
Worst thing that I've ever done high? Forgot my wallet at my house when I walked up to the store to get a pizza.
Yet everyone will say weed is worse because the government tells them so...
It really is time to dispel the myths and propaganda. It would be legal for all, if it weren't for the fact that the corporations (especially big pharma) and the Governments couldn't make a damn thing off of it being it is in fact a natural plant that requires nothing but time to grow and a little TLC (i.e. it doesn't take a vat full of trash substances and chemicals to create artificially in a lab, then patented to rake in billions world-wide). How's this for a little education... nobody has ever died from using it alone and it is impossible to overdose on. How many things in this world can that be said of (certainly not man-made chemical 'medicines')? Even consuming too much water can kill!
By the way, the fact that the Government is raking in about $100 for every MMIC (Medical Marijuana Identification Card) should give you a big hint about the racket they're playing with. If your doctor prescribed it, that recommendation alone should be enough for you to smoke and possess without being arrested and thrown in jail, WITHOUT your $100 (extortion) tax just to take your medicine! Do you need a license and to pay $100 to take actual Narcotic drugs (which are literally defined as derivatives of Opium, which Cannabis is NOT) prescribed to you by your doctor? Chew on that for a while...
Both drugs are in use by man since prehistory! About 2500 years ago, the Greek historian Herodotus describes the Scythians of central Asia throwing hemp onto heated stones under canvas: 'as it burns, it smokes like incense and the smell of it makes them drunk'. Even earlier evidence includes cannibis seeds found in 5000 year old settlements, although it is possible that the people only used hemp as fiber and not as intoxicant. Ethanol, a product of the fermentation of sugars from grain and grapes, is even older in human use. Ethanol has the advantage that our bodies readily metabolize it and excrete the products, so it is rapidly detoxified. Except for fetal alcohol syndrome, ethanol has rather mild effect on human health--it certainly does not cause the major pathologies such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer or Alzheimer's. Psychotic Christians in the early twentieth century in the United States convinced the US Congress that ethanol was "evil", and had it criminalized for 14 years (1919-1933), the era that gave rise to organized crime syndicates in the US (like Al Capone, the notorious gangster). The same sort of mentality has been used to criminalize cannabis, but many states and muncipalities have decriminalized possession of small amounts and even growth of plant...

Most likely, the future of cannabis in the US will include increased acceptance and further decriminalization.
