Michael Phelps came in a distant fourth place in the 400 meter individual medley. Fans and colleagues had higher expectations for Phelps, who won 16 Olympic medals. Phelps won eight Gold medals in Beijing (2008) and six Gold and two Bronze in Athens (2004). Others had less than "high" expectations for Phelps because of his lifestyle choices since 2008. The NY Times reported Phelps' drug use in 2009:
Wikipedia describes "420" as "primarily a term used in North America to refer to the consumption of cannabis and, by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabis."
MSN.FOXSPORTS.COM reports:
The Olympic swimming sensation Michael Phelps, who was photographed inhaling from a marijuana pipe, has lost a major sponsorship deal and has been suspended from competition for three months.

MSN.FOXSPORTS.COM reports:
Michel Phelps fails to win gold in 400m individual medley. Phelps was routed by his American rival in the 400-meter individual medley, losing to Lochte by more than 4 seconds Saturday. That's not all: The winningest Olympian ever didn't win any medal at all, the first time that's happened in a race of this magnitude since he was a 15-year-old kid competing in just one event at the Sydney Games, a dozen years ago.
