Wuthering Heights: Which character is more selfish?

Assassin Felinious March 01, 2009 08:09:27

Here's the movie of the great novel "Wuthering Heights." It is a wonderful story that's a lot more realistic than the Twilight series. And it shows the depth of love, revenge, and hate.

She is so selfish. she only cares about herself. this becomes evident because she causes herself to become sick only as a way of hurting Edgar and Heathcliff.

She wanted it all............money through marriage and fine house and standing, and her true love Heathcliff. She lost all the way around. And he turned crazy from it all.......very sad story.

Most definitely Cathy! I haven't read the book in many years, and don't often watch movies based on books, as they never, ever, ever, hit all the marks the books hit. But, I remember being deeply moved by the fact that Heathcliff loved and remained faithful in his love for a dead and selfish woman for the rest of his life.

Cathy, for thinking she could have both men without hurting either. Everything is always about her. How can she claim to love someone so much when she deliberately causes that person so much pain? Cathy chooses Edgar over Heathcliff for higher social standing, thus hurting Heathcliff. Because of her choice, she basically is saying that she doesn't truly love Edgar, so she is hurting him as well. not to mention that she pretty much causes her own death all because Edgar wouldn't let her have Heathcliff as her own too. She hurts both men just because she dies.

Sorry, I was a bit obsessed with the book. Big book nerd I am. :]
