  Because, food only covers your nutritional needs and does not take into account, housing costs, heating and light, water for drinking and bathing.......clothing etc. These are not luxuries but necessities.

  thats what we do every day; unless ofcourse, you are one of these occupiers in NY, Oakland, or where ever. those guys don't understand the concept of hardwork. they think that profit is a bad word.

  I HAVE done just that in the past .. (worked for food) ...
  
  I hope that I've taken care of myself and my needs enough to not have to face that situation again in the future as I age further ... (which is why I am very FRUGAL .. and live below my means).

  I'm retired now, but when I was working, I worked for food, shelter, clothing, fun and recreation, oh, and medical bills.

  Same here, but that list of what I worked for included a wife, kids, a few pets and a lot of nonworking Americans with the taxes that were confiscated from me by the IRS.
