Would you prefer befriending a social outcast or a "popular" individual?

Well, I'm a social outcast, so befriending one sounds awesome! :D And in the words of a wise squid: "I hate everyone. *troll face*" :o :P

Same here. They're just so much more fun and they're understanding, nice, intelligent, upon other good stuff. And I quote that very same squid (did you know he's actually an octopus? Weird right? :o): "Is it time already for you to ruin my day"? Lol, Squidward is epic. :)

Nope, he's an Octopus according to the creator of the show, despite him looking like a Squid and having Squid in his name. I know it's hard to accept, but oh well. :/

I kind of am a social outcast. Plus, I know what it's like to be even more of one, to the point of having no friends whatsoever. Therefore, when I noticed some people in my classes who never really seemed to talk to anyone, I would talk to them. And that's how I have some of the friends I do.
I also particularly avoid the popular people. They tend to be shallow and conceited individuals who are virtually carbon copies of each other, which are types I simply CAN'T get along with. Ever. Besides, they probably think I'm weird or nerdy or a freak, but I couldn't care less. And even if they don't, they may regard some of my friends that way, and honestly? Anyone who makes fun of my friends isn't a friend of mine. Case closed.
So yeah, I'd rather befriend a social outcast any day. They're definitely more interesting people. :)

I'm exactly like you, except I care about what others think of me. Or, at least, for the most part, I care of what others think due to social anxiety and Avoidant Personality Disorder. Other than that, I truly agree with every word you said, especially the end part where you mentioned that outcasts are interesting. :)

Depends on why you are popular. 'Normal' as in what everyone else wants you to be is not good. But some people are just happy, confident, and secure somehow early on. People are whimsical and usually don't really know what they like. If you're having fun, making light of life then they will usually appreciate that.

Very good point, it certainly does depend on the reason for one's popularity and, of course, their actions. I generally prefer social outcasts since most popular people are not very nice, at least where I live, and the outcasts are generally friends you can rely on. But I also like people who are simply normal individuals; the ones "in the middle". However, not all popular types are mean, there are ones who are very nice.

Lol, yeah I strongly agree. Social outcasts, how can I put this, are just interesting. They're truly more than just a person you use for personal gain, which is what popular people do, they're true friends.

It's easier considering I am one

I tend to make friends with oddballs, loners, weirdos, and people who scare others because of the type of fashion they go for, it's a fluke, I don't go out of my way to befriend them, just the normal average Joe seems to avoid me or look at me odd and NO I don't have weird fashion sense, when I've asked people why they take an instant dislike to me, they say my eyes are spooky... weird in my opinion, but lots say it, so maybe my eyes are freaky?

Yeah I agree, that's generally my social life in a nutshell. Others generally socially neglect for no good reason, they act as if I'm thin air. I befriend social outcasts both because I enjoy their company (they're pretty interesting) and because I have trouble befriending others above that social rank.
