Leap Motion has announced it will begin shipping and selling its computer motion sensor control this May. The company made waves last year when it introduced the control, which shares the company's name, with a series of YouTube videos showing users controlling their machines much like the way video game players use the Xbox Kinect motion sensor.

Despite originally setting and missing a January deadline, the Leap Motion will start shipping to users on May 13. It will also go on sale at Best Buy stores a few days later on May 19. The company said users interested in buying the device, can pre-order it from Leap Motion or BestBuy.com now for $79.99 plus shipping and taxes.

Why would I want to wave my hand in front of my computer screen when I can accomplish the same thing by just moving my hand slightly? It seems like a step backwards to me.

How about controlling your computer with a thought sensor? That actually exists now, and way back in the mid-1980s there was a computer magic trick program for MS-DOS that gave the appearance that the computer could read your mind, guessing what playing card you were thinking of, with seemingly no computer input at all except your mind. You’d just type the command to start the program from the DOS prompt, then it would tell you to think of a card, then tell you what the card is, without your even so much as touching the keyboard or mouse once the program started!.

Damn it, I meant to hit "yes". And yes I would, but only if it worked flawlessly.

Why does everything have to go to motion controls? It didn't work for the Wii, it didn't work for the Playstation Move, it didn't work for the Kinect, it doesn't work. Stop trying to make us wave our hands around when a simple controller, or keyboard and mouse, do the trick a million times better!
  • bye 2013/03/02 00:35:12

Better yet; i want the six parallel computers the hacker used in the movie Fish.
  • RH Bolrog 2013/03/02 01:42:11
That is actually rather easy to do. Just takes a small chunk of change and a large desk :)

And the cool part about that 6 computer screen scene... they are showing him use real hacking tools.
  • Bolrog RH 2013/03/03 19:29:08
I agree, which is the scary part and yeah could splice 6 screens to a single computer and then use split screens and drop down windows to each comp to run 6 programs in parallel. We have terraflop pcs now...lol
    terraflop best buy

My son said the funniest thing he was like 9 years old... there was a commercial for some Kinnect Dance game and the commercial showed a bunch of people dancing and said "You don't need a controller!'' and he said, "You don't need the game!" --like if you want to go out and dance wtf do you need the game for? It was perfect!

Eh, there's no point to that besides feeling kinda cool. But I'm not gonna pay 80 bucks to feel slightly cool.Besides, it's easier to just move my fingers slightly on the laptop mouse.

Sign me up! I already have a Kinect, and I absolutely love it. Plus, they already make touch-screen laptops, desktops, and tablet-computers (like the windows Surface. both a tablet, and a laptop), so hey, why not have the best of both worlds? :3

The same technology can be used to spy on you 24/7 so while it would be nice for games and maybe engineering applications I see no use for this to say write a document etc... And having to rely on this tech given it's intrusive capabilities is not good either...

huh? i knew it! someone brought up spying over yet another new piece of technology!
  • RoyJLores Navin J... 2013/02/28 23:20:57
you dumbass is nothing new is basically the same technology that allow people now to play games without controllers on the Xbox and other platforms and yes it can and is being used for spying in case you did not notice we already live in an Orwellian big brother is watching society...
