Would You Be More Willing to Buy Something Endorsed by Your Favorite Artist?

You!

Music is a powerful force -- you don't need us to tell you that. But a recent MTV survey found that more people would rather go a week without sex than a week without music. How's that for power? No wonder so many brands are turning to musicians to help sell their product.

Music has been used to push everything from Coke and Sprite to automobiles and credit reports, and evidently it works. Unlike sex, music safely appeals to younger audiences, and a catchy melody sticks with customers better than a chuckle-worthy Budweiser ad.

But using music to advertise a product is still risky business. It's the classic scenario of mixing business with pleasure. Just because you like Drake and Sprite doesn't mean you approve of the two working together. Then again, maybe you do. That Volkswagen ad with John Mayer was pretty cool, but it didn't necessarily make us more interested in Volkswagen.

While you ponder the relation between music and marketing, feel free to take this 5-question Quick Poll to let us know what you think.

If I'm a big enough fan, I will.

It also depends on the product the celebrity's endorsing.

I'm not influenced by an artist endorsements of thing. Hell sometimes they don't even use the products. I'm not in the business of being a mindless drone.

The artist is just using fame to get paid. I would do the same thing in his place.

Hardly. Most of them are mental midgets with massive egos and that makes for a crappy ringing endorsement for any product. Simply speaking would you buy financial investments from a musician of course not, then why would buy a bottle of Coke from them if they're pushing it.

A majority of the American Public, as depicted by MTV's survey of teenagers and 20-somethings, cannot think for themselves.

Actually, I am less likely to buy something if a celebrity endorses it because i am against the celebrity worship cult that pervades our culture.

Do I look like a thirtee-year old? I may enjoy someone's music, but my interest in them ends there and even if it didn't they are paid for their endorsement. That's like paying for friends.

It's sad that in North America these soda companies that contain high fructose GMO corn syrup which has been linked to several cancers, major organ disruption, climate change (google Mycorrhizal fungi and pesticides or read Organic Manifesto), and many other undesirable consequences which is why they're largely banned everywhere else in the world can peddle their wares through sponsorship of shows and using artists which directly targets kids. BS i tell's ya. BS! Stay away from PepsiCo and Coke products if you want to live a long healthy life, eat organic.

And the diet drinks contain aspartame and they're marketed to kids just the same. Aspartame is a carcinogenic, genetically modified neurotoxin, study excitotoxicity if you think it's not serious. THe conflict of interests behind the groups claiming aspartame is safe is very long - http://www.holisticmed.com/as...

No, honestly, you either like a product or you don't! Why would anyone buy into such propaganda? Granted, yes, I'm a HUGE music enthusiast, I still can't see myself being tempted by my favourite artists to go and buy something that THEY enjoy!

And most of their perfumes smell like $H!T anyway!

No I would not care if they endorsed it. They are only doing so for the money. Doesn't mean the product is really that good. I decide for myself based on the product not who endorses it.

I generally shop around but if there is a brand I have used that is of good and consistent quality I will more likely buy that brand,

For general household groceries I buy house brands and for electronic and computer hardware etc I choose my brand wisely.
