Would You Be More Willing to Buy Something Endorsed by Your Favorite Artist?

Music is a powerful force -- you don't need us to tell you that. But a recent MTV survey found that more people would rather go a week without sex than a week without music. How's that for power? No wonder so many brands are turning to musicians to help sell their product.

Music has been used to push everything from Coke and Sprite to automobiles and credit reports, and evidently it works. Unlike sex, music safely appeals to younger audiences, and a catchy melody sticks with customers better than a chuckle-worthy Budweiser ad.

But using music to advertise a product is still risky business. It's the classic scenario of mixing business with pleasure. Just because you like Drake and Sprite doesn't mean you approve of the two working together. Then again, maybe you do. That Volkswagen ad with John Mayer was pretty cool, but it didn't necessarily make us more interested in Volkswagen.

While you ponder the relation between music and marketing, feel free to take this 5-question Quick Poll to let us know what you think.

they don't pay my bills, and they certainly do not influence what I purchase.

Well if they're your favorite artist, why aren't they influencing you to pay for their music? That seems kind of dirty.

Chances are if you like the same music as they do, so much that you both consider it your favorite, your likes and dislikes in other areas may be similar.

It might help me remember the brand name of a new or forgotten product, but endorsement won't make me more likely to buy anything.

That would simply mean that they sold our their music for more profits. I would be signinficantly LESS likely to buy their music again, and I would boycott the products they were endorsing.

Sometime I do try it..but I will have to said "no" because I buy what I like and what suit me and NOT because the artists endorsed. I do not the type to follow the "Pied Piper".

Most of us have ans. NO to this question, but I am pretty sure that the age group that these sales target, are not ans. questions on this venue....SO, I think this particular voting will not accurately reflect the real situation. These types of things need to be monitored and discouraged by the parents, for the sake of the young person.

I'd be more likely to stop buying an artist's music once they start shilling for some soda, beer or automobile company.

I know they only do it for the money. I'm fine with that because I would too, but knowing that I know they don't stand behind the product because they think it's quality.

If it takes your "favorite artists" to help you decide what to purchase than you are a sheep who can't think and act for themselves. That's what the hell is wrong with this country.

Actually, it depends. I never buy drinks or food or even clothes based on a celebrity endorsement. The one thing I DO buy based on the endorsement of someone I appreciate is musical instruments. Combined with my belief that the company makes a quality product, I will buy musical instruments or equipment based on their endorsement.

I would never endorse any product or political affiliation endorsed by any LWNJ so called :"celebrities". They should shut up and keep their opinions to themselves. I do not buy any product or service associated with known wackos, weirdos or left wing political hacks.

I'm trying to think about anything I've bought that was endorsed by someone I respected. Of course, in my day, our artists didn't make stupid commercials about Coke or whatever. YOu know, if I was a label or owner of a sports team, I'd write in the contract that the artist or athlete while under my employ is not allowed to make commercials. Also, I'd bench or fine them for twittering stupid crap about their rivals. Keep low profiles. Keep your mouths shut. Play your guitar or basketball and entertain the fans.
